I went on Prevacid (then Prilosec OTC) since I was diagnosed as having some damage due to reflux, even though it wasn't symptomatic. This was B.C. (before CPAP). One night (B.C.), I found myself without my Prilosec and in the middle of the night, I felt like I was swimming in an acid pool.
Now in A.D. (After Da cpap), I asked my doc if I could try to go off of reflux meds and he suggested that I don't, since I didn't have obvious symptoms before an upper G.I. showed the damage.
Doth the apnea begat the reflux? Doth treating the apnea un-begat the reflux? Guess I won't know, since the doc sez not to risk it...

I think reflux begats the apnea and then the apnea makes the reflux worse.
I went to visit my Air Force son in England and was very nervous about taking my expensive machine on the airplane--so I didn't. Just as well, as our luggage got lost (very long story). I had just started taking the acid killer Protonix. The whole time I was away from my CPAP, I didn't notice any apnea--I am an alarm everyone in the house, pound her on the back apnea victim. So I think, nixing the reflux helps contain apnea.
Fairly recently, I noticed reflux despite the Protonix and switched to Nexium. Then I started having apnea (ON THE CPAP) LIKE I WAS GOING TO DIE--NEVER BREATHE AGAIN. I have run out of the house in my PJ's thinking I'd run the mile to the ER, before I got my breathe back. So now the doc sez head of the bed on blocks, etc.
