Pain in ears and chest

Post by KCJ » Fri Nov 17, 2006 12:08 pm

Just found this forum. Wondered if anyone had any clues as to what might be going on with me.

I have been using my CPAP for almost 2 years now. In the last few months, I have been experiencing pain in my ears, throat and chest. It's quite sharp and very unpleasant. It hits suddenly and then dulls a bit, but hangs on for hours...sometimes days. Mainly in my ears, but I since yesterday, then pain has been in my chest as well.

I don't believe it to be heart related, as I've had a few other experiences that I thought were, but weren't after all. So, any help would be great!

Thanks!

chest pain

Don't know about the ears, but sometimes chest pain, usually for new users or those who recently increased their pressure, is costal chondritis (sp?), inflammation of the tendons that hold the ribs together. Google it.

Sometimes heart attack symptoms are subltle, especially in women, and untreated sleep apnea can damage the heart. Have you have any heart exams to be sure you're OK?

Have you increased your pressure recently? What's you equipment and pressure?

you need your machine checked out. I had the same problem and they found false readings. mine was set on 17, but I was getting 28.4 . I also was having bolts of lighting when I would get up to go to the bathroom during the night.so get it checked asap.

New to CPAP

Post by michael_schaap » Fri Nov 17, 2006 2:41 pm

Well I am new to CPAP, but during this last year I have learned a lot about heart conditions. I was told I had two heart attacks and I did not even know about it. My heart condition and various other hints (snoring) gave my doctor the thought to go to the sleep lab.

I think any pain in the chest should be taken very seriously. Especially if it last more then a few minutes. It might feel foolish if it turns out to be nothing, but nevertheless you are having pain in the chest and are being treated for a condition that could iniciate a heart attack. Go to the doctor or the ER. The best thing you could find out is that nothing is wrong

The suggestions do not exclude each other.

You should have both your machine, and your body checked asap.

It's up to doctors to make a differential diagnosis, that is, to find out which of many possible things is causing your symptoms..

Too much pressure from a faulty machine may be one of those reasons

Have you DME check the machine immediately, if you have one. Here's one way of doing it on your own:

And contact a doctor - whether the machine is OK or not.
