After dealing with being outright lied to by Apria Heathcare and dealing totally incompentent, under trained RT's that refused to give me the manuals... (as well as numerous customer complaints, to the point that my insurance company ConnectiCare finally drop them as a DME supplier)... The ironic part of all of this is my new DME gave me all the manuals with my Resperonics Bipap Auto without question. Their position is this... There is no legal or medical restriction to withhold the manuals... Period. In fact, they gave me a free copy of Encore 1.6 because, as I was told, it's so pooly written software it's not worth the retail price. To quote my new DME RT, "A 13 yo kid could do a better job... I hope Resperonic didn't waste allot of money on this garbage".

Re: None
[quote="socialtool"]Wulfman,
According to the software distributed EULA, Respironics is the ONLY authorized reseller and wholesale/retail supplier of the EncorePro software. Free downloads are not resale, wholesale, or retail. But cpap.com can't make money from free downloads. It is overpriced when it is supposed to be free. It is free from Respironics for medical staff. Only patients are paying for this software from cpap.com and others. This is without the permission of Respironics. If you can prove otherwise I would like to see it. The software is free because it is a required component of your Respironics equipment. Your Respironics equipment WILL NOT operate without it. EncorePro is the ONLY way to establish a patients prescription into the equipment. It is the same thing as buying a brand new car then being charged extra for tires. This is why it is free. You paid for it when you bought the equipment. Respironics just got scared about patients changing their prescriptions as stated previously.
Maybe the previous member was bullied by stupidity in this forum and found the same ignorance that I am finding. Hmmm...wonder why he gave up. Sorry I even mentioned this. I actually thought some people would enjoy the consideration. But wow, was I wrong. I guess even some people enjoy kicking cute puppies!
So far not even one single, hey thanks...good idea. No wonder the last guy gave up. With all the "weekend" lawyers in here who would want to even try.
The topics been up for less than four hours and I already feel like tossing this out on it's aXX.
Just thought I would help...my mistake!

Can't seem to log in: Anyway.... It's nothing different than a doctor writing a prescription for a controlled drug. The doctor writes the scrip, the scrip is filled. At that point its up to the responsibility of the person taking the prescription to follow the directions. Nothing is stopping the person from over dosing by not following the doctor's orders. Some place along the way DME's and especially Resperonics have gotten the warped idea, most likely from bad management and lawyers, that CPAP machine setup have to be kept secret from the person buying it. Apria Heathcare DME is the worst at doing this. They will give you a ton of excuses... anything from legal, company policy, to medical... why you can't get a setup manual, that BTY, is shipped with every cpap unit. Its nothing but crap. There is absolutely no law on the books in any state to prevent a cpap user from getting all the documentation for the device. If that's the case then car manufactures wouldn't sell the consumer factory shop manuals. Or MicroSoft not selling Windows XP to end users because you might crash your pc. People with diabetes are given a box fill of needles... and enough insulant to kill themselves if wanted.

Denying the patient their full prescription is criminal in my veiw. This crap of holding back vital information that enables a patient to properly control his treatment is like holding back the side effects information, you would stop taking pills if they didn't provide the desired results. Some people feel that the Dr's instructions are to be followed strictly, many have suffered because of this.
So I say let the ones that worry over the damndest crap find something of import to worry over and let the rest of us that are truely interested in taking informed care of ourselves continue in our quest.
To provide the service of software for our personal care that otherwise would be shareware should be applauded!

Well said... Let's face it, it's a business decision. The DME's can swindle your insurance company out of $200 for a RT to spend 5 minutes "readjusted" the cpcp device that you brought in. Of course, the DME bill includes a fee to call your doctor to "authorize" the change. Now, the doctor bills your insurance company for a phone consult that his office staff handles: $150. Total: $200+150=$350. Pitty the person without insurance. Then the insurance company raises our rates every year. Capitalism at it best! Everybody makes money. It's all about making money folks.... make no mistake. What's going to happen is this... because of Resperonics clearly myoptic mangament decisions not to allow end users (consumers) to have accesss to crappy software or documentation and encouraging DME's such as Apria Healthcare to pilfer manuals, we as consumers will go elsewere. Resperonics isn't the only game on the block. Again... capitalism at it best. BTY... my first Resp bipap pro 2 failed after 500 hours due to defective blower motor bearings. Now my Resp bipap auto, with 1300 hours is starting to make the same noise. I can assure Resperonics this will be my last unit I will buy from them.
