Is there a recall on Remstar Heated Humidifiers or not? They mention it in a google search. An article called Respironics Stumbles.

article states a voluntary recall,
As for the recall, Respironics said it was in discussions with the Food and Drug Administration and expects about $5 million in costs for the recall of about 172,000 humidifiers produced three to five years ago.
Produced 3 to 5 years ago??

why that would have to be the Classic humidifier? I thought that one was designed much better than the new M series one and it worked great. Maybe they should give up the humidifier business

But the Remstar h/h is rock solid ?

well the water chambers can leak if people don't treat them well.

It would be interesting to know what the exact issue is. The *only* strange thing I have seen (but this applies to F&P chambers as well) is that if you scratch the plastic off the aluminium base while cleaning the base, strange whispy things grow from the place where the water meets the aluminium. Over several days these whispy things get bigger & bigger

I damaged one Remstar chamber that way but repaired it by resealing the damaged places with small dobs of silicone sealant. I was not able to repair a F&P water chamber I damaged in a similar fashion (funny actually, I used to use rice shaken around in water, to clean the deposits off the sides but one day I used Indonesian long grain hard rice & its sharp tips damaged the plastic covering the aluminium base - strange whispy things started growing from the rents in the plastic - I cut the chamber open & look at at the damage under a scope )

Aluminium & warm water can start off strange new life forms I didn't know if I should let these things grow & see what they turned into or terminate them asap. Having been a great fan of movies like 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' I eventually opted to terminate asap

DSM

xPAP and Quattro std mask (plus a pad-a-cheek anti-leak strap)

Found out more, from dealer. It's the Remstar Heated Humidifier, and it's an electrical problem that could cause external materials to ignite. They've got all the serial numbers and will notify by mail if you have one, and exchange the product. They're saying to disconnect it from power and use it as a passover until you can get a new one. I think she said 2001 to 2003 were the years of manufacture. The earlier part was before Medicare paid for Heated Humidifiers and other insurances often followed their guidelines, so I bet there weren't as many out there then as there are now.

That is nice that they are going to contact (sarcastic). How do they have names and addresses. I have one I bought new and one used. They can't possibly know I have the used one. I googled for information and was unsuccessful. I sent Respironics a note asking for info on how to check my serial numbers.....

Waiting for a response.
