I hit the mother load

Post by IBTeri » Mon Nov 06, 2006 12:37 pm

took my son for a eeg and the tech there also is a sleep tech. talked to him about my sleep study and was told after looking at what I did have of my sleep study report. He ask about tration? I said never had it. he pointed out that paper said my cpap pressure where 11 in lab. I said how could they be when was never on cpap in lab. I didn't fall asleep fast enough for them to be able to do a split night study on me. spoke to him about my alergys and how it only happened in rem apenia a hypopea. he said cpap should also fix hypopea I said than why did I have to go to full face mask because I was gasping? He just flat out told me I need a new sleep study. and since I just found out the sleep doctor I did have is no longer on the list of providers for my health insurance I need to find new doctor anyway. the tech pointed out the sleep lab a block away and said to go there and ask about if they take my insurance or not. I did and I hit the mother load!!! I asked the sleep lab if they took my insurance and they did. ask if they had opening this month they said yes. asked if a 52% leak rate was ok they said never. told them what mask I had and why I what I have been doing to try and fix leaks they said that both the mask i had where not good for me. flat out said they didn't like the nose gel one at all and get this they not only gave me a new full face mask. But also a new nose mask with a chin strap. and told me also to have my family doctor ask for a sleep study using a biflex machine.
I now am a proud owner of a size small comfort slected and a size medium comfortfull 2 and a deluxe chinstrap. he almost gave me a nasel air? mask but did not cause it didn't have straps for it. told me to ask for one. when I had sleep study done. LOL when I was done my son asked me MOM are you collecting those things?

If during your first PSG they put a cpap mask on your face, then you had a titration, that would be how they came up with the 11.0cm pressure finding.

However, you may not think you fell asleep but they would be looking at your EEG. They may have seen that 11.0cm pressure resulted in good sleep, normally you MUST reach REM for that to happen.

If you did not reach REM during the titration portion, then it is possible your pressure may be too low as most severe events take place during REM sleep. In the case of not reaching REM, they would have requested that you come back for another study. They must titrate you so you reach REM in order to find your ideal pressure.

A full PSG lasts 4-hours. First 120 minutes is the diagnostic portion of a split-night study. So during the first 2 hours if they determine if you have OSA, they may put a mask on you after your first sleep cycle or 90 minutes. Then the rest of the study may be devoted to the 2nd half of the split-night which is the titration portion. This is where they increase pressure until you are sleeping like a log. This is where they would have found your 11.0cm pressure on the report.

Most insurance requires the PSG to last 240 minutes. If the lab is busy, they may boot you out after that or let you sleep until morning.

Never ever had a mask on at all. I didn't fall asleep fast enough for them to do a split study. I did not have titration. They set my pressure by having me use a auto for 5 days. I didn't have the eeg my son did.

out of 402 min I slept for 256 min and out of those min I only had 15 min of rem. and rem is the only time I have osa and hypopnea. my index was 15.9 in 15 min.
