Why is my right nostril only chapped?

Post by G00fy217 » Mon Feb 21, 2005 2:21 pm

Ok, I have been on cpap now for about 18 nights (days, whatever) and I am on mask #3.... this mask seems to be good only leaks once in awhile. But why is just my right nostril chapped? I am now putting vasoline on it at night and in the morning before I leave for work. But, I just don't understand why just one nostril and not both? Could it be from a leak? How do I prevent this? Any suggestions?

Oh, and also... as I said, I have been on cpap now for 18 days (nights, whatever) and the last 2 nights I have been waking up a few times during the night. I get this itchy feeling, hot & cold flashes, and I can hear like every noise in the house. Is this normal? Does cpap do this after awhile to a person? Or, is it because my monsters are still up and I can hear them around the house that I can't seem to sleep well enough and start doing all kinds of other things (scratchy, itchy feeling)? Anyone know what I mean?

Are you using nasal pillows?

Because if not, your nose is just NOT getting enough sleep.

Liam, whose nose rests comfortably all night long.

G00fy,

I get that on my left nare (nostrel). I'd posted a poll a while ago "what shape are your nares?" because my left one is kidney shaped on the inside because of a deviated septum. If you don't already, try using Ayr gel. I'll also bring that along on Thursday if you want to see what it is. See you then!

Liam, when I refer to my "left one" I am talking about my nare.

Goof,
Only my right, also... Wierd. I wonder if it is my sleeping position (left side) and that "gravity thing". I think the rotation of the pillows makes a difference, too. I put a little neosporin on the sore area inside my nose during the day and that seems to help.

Try using AYR Nasal Gel.....It works great....I too had a problem with just my right nare. It just took some getting used to until it toughened up and now I have no more problem. You can Also try going to the next size up on the pillows. They still will fit but will have more of a cushion/pillow affect uner your nares. I also alternate weekly between the pillows and the nasal mask.

Good Luck,

Look at your right hand. Do you have a chapped finger tip on any fingers of your right hand.....

Cheers,

Try doing your lines with the other nostril?

Liam, who misses the days of the start of SNL, when drug humor was funny.

The SNL drug humor ceased to be funny when the comedians started to drop dead. That will always kill a good joke.

wader, who is cleverly suggesting to Liam that if he falls over dead he won't be funny any more... and Janet won't be happy about cleaning up the mess.

Yeah that episode with John Belushi dancing on the graves was really weird when he died...

Wow, thanks. I'm trying. And for the record, I've never done any recreational drug other than alcohol, and I don't drink particularly much.

So not to say I won't drop dead, but if I do, it won't be because of the drugs. More likely, it'll be because of the depression.

Which, come to think of it, isn't as funny as I intended it to be, because there's at least a grain of truth there.

Liam, not planning to drop de.............

(Janet tells me that most people don't find the morbid side of my humor funny, that after living with me for 5 months, she's just starting to appreciate it and she knows me better than just about anyone else. If she's right, my apologies for this one.)

Liam, not intending to make jokes people find morbid and not fu........

Liam,

As long as you don't drop dead your morbid sense of humor is funny. It's when those morbidly humorous people do drop dead that the humor goes from funny to ironic.
