Well, you're wrong there! Sleep apnea IS a serious health threat.....and if you haven't learned it by now, you haven't spent enough time here.
When you stop breathing, it deprives your body of oxygen which eventually does bad things to your organs which makes you very sick.

Also, if you haven't noticed, there are a lot of people who have trouble with their therapy......they look for places to turn to on the Internet for help.....and many find this forum.
This forum is about helping people with sleep apnea.

Still confused?

Hi Linda...

Do come back and do some more reading. I am somewhere between a sweet young thing and an ancient hag. Three days ago, I had 2 more stents placed in my vascular system (now have 5 total...). I also have a 2.5 mm aneurysm in my brain. I am NOT trying to frighten you, but would like for you to understand how important it is to treat Sleep Apnea. The docs have been scratching their heads, wondering why my vascular system was deteriorating so badly. Now they say.......Oh, you have Sleep Apnea! I really wish I had known years ago about the Apnea. I would surely have treated it, and having done so, would have avoided this damage and some uncomfortable hospital stays, not to mention all the symptoms caused by poor circulation.

This site helps me in many ways. There is so much information and support here. As many before me have said, I have learned more here than I have with my Dr. and DME.

Offerocker ....

Want some ice or something?

You need to take more time and learn more about sleep apnea, Linda...It is a deadly disease--maybe more deadly than cancer--because it is a silent disease--many don't know they have sleep apnea until years of damage have been done to their bodies...
I have been in the hospital over the last 8 years many times with heart related issues--that are clearing up now that I am on CPAP therapy. Have also suffered from migraines for the past 10 years-and had a heart attack after taking a med that is used to stop migraines. Since starting CPAP on August 23rd of this year-I have had 1 headache. I used to wake up every morning with headaches and would take 3 Excedrin before getting out of bed, and then would have to lay in bed for another half hour before getting up, or the headache would turn into an all day migraine without fail.
I've been treated with anti depressants many times--thinking I couldn't get out of bed because I must have been depressed--when really what was happening is that I couldn't get out of bed because I was exhausted from lack of real sleep.
We turn to each other here because there are others here who understand what we have been through--and some people need encouragement to not just forgo the "hassle" of CPAP therapy--some who would stop it all together, if not for the support and help they find here.
we also turn to one another for support here and knowledge and answers that we can't get from the DME's or the doctors in alot of cases--I'm lucky--I have an awesome dr. and a DME that lets me call the shots regarding my therapy-probably only because I am in the medical profession myself--not everybody here is that lucky-and if it wouldn't have been for people here that I have learned from-I would not have known what to ask for in speaking up for myself regarding my therapy.
So--maybe to you it seems like a waste of time-for us it is serious business, and we need support and encouragement as we face what is a deadly disease--we don't sleep with these machines just so that we won't snore at night...

YES, P L E A S E !!!

I WAS being 'good', though; found that post difficult to believe.

Some DOCTORS didn't 'know' years ago!!
I remember holding my breath, waking up gasping for air, etc. and TELLING a doctor about it. Not even a "hmmmmmmm"
TODAY, they are more aware, possibly due to manufacturers of equipment. their advertising and education?
My family dr. is now asking people about pertinent sleep problems whenever they complain of tiredness, depression, etc.

AGREE! I've passed on info to my family doctor, who is one terrific person.
Thanks for the ice! I feel much better now. .

The lack of oxygen I spoke of.....doing damage to you organs.....
Well, the lack of oxygen also affects the brain......and causes confusion.

Snoredog, your ice is melting here! And where did you get an 8-hour CD, ...or was it "White Noise"?? .

By the way - can you dig deep into your databank and recall ANY reason why someone would start typing as if dyslexic - one hand only? I'm not driving either. I'm serious. Really serious, scary-serious.

I'm also getting very tired of backspacing and retyping.

I'm getting confused too.

I think you may have expected us to tell you its nothing, that everybody wakes up all the time, and everybody stops breathing.

Well - everybody here did so before cpap therapy, and most of us no longer do so thanks to cpap therapy. Obstructive sleep apnea - getting literaly choked many times an hour when you sleep is a very big deal and dangerous to your health, well being, quality of life and length of life in the long run.

The therapy is not easy to get used to - at least for many of us who found this forum - and we are here either asking for help, learning, or giving back some of what we have received. Yes, you will have to sleep with the mask for the rest of your life - or util something else is discovered to keep you from choking.

Sleeping, resting, dreaming and breathing with the mask every night (and every nap) are much much better than struggling against suffocation, all night long, each night, without any rest for the rest of your life.

This is not the place for you to find someone to tell you "snap out of it" "forget about it" "its nothing" "stop feeling sorry for yourself" etc. This is the place where people take being choked as they sleep very seriously, and do all they can to help themselves in getting the right therapy for it.

I think if you have ever be transported to the hospital, in the middle of the night, to receive shock treatment to halt an A-Fib event, you might make hose-heading your hobby also.

+ Aussie heated hose.

LOLA: You CAN'T talk to your doctor or respiratory therapist, or someone from the sleep study lab about any of your concerns? You didn't mention any of that having happened; it reads like you complained to your dr., he told you to come here, then all of a sudden, you have a mask! What type of mask, what type of machine?
You must be specific with questions IF you want answers.
