Profile Lite Gel Mask

Post by hgli2005 » Thu Nov 02, 2006 11:04 am

Just started on PAP and the first night went well. I have a question though. I am using the Respironics Profile Lite and it is comfortable. There seems to be leaking from the swivel which is where the exhalation port is.

Also there are two ports on the bottom corners of the mask, they come with rubber plugs or caps. What are these ports and should they be capped or left open?

Thanks

The ports should be capped/closed, unless you use supplemental oxygen. They are provided to allow oxygen lines from oxygen bottles to connect to your mask. Normally there is no leakage that you describe. Are you sure that it is not just exhaust flow from your exhaust ports/

Thanks capt. The exhaust is the little rectagle near 90 degree the bend of the swivel yes? I'll have to inspect it closer tonight..... Thanks again.

Actually there IS leakage as he/she described. That leak is the intentional exhaust leak at the elbow. It should remain leaking and should not be blocked.

As mentioned the white caps should remain on the supplemental oxygen ports.

Next mask you get I would go with the ComfortGel over the Profile light, the gel cushion is much better, has a better forehead support and leaks less. Still a tad noisy since they use similar if not the same elbow setup.

Thanks snoredog, second night was fine and yes, the leak seems limited to the exhaust port on the elbow, as is appropriate. So all seems right.....

Thanks.
