FOR Mr. JOHNNY GOODMAN AND SITE ADMINISTRAOR

Post by Registered User » Sat Oct 28, 2006 11:22 am

Johnny,

I must write this under 'Guest' because I represent multiple registered users, and there has been MUCH personal 'slamming' going on lately.
Long-time registered users are frustrated, some are not posting as much as they would truly like, and some have LEFT! Everyone suffers as a result!

Thankfully, you have made it very easy for newcomers to register; I've noticed that more 'newbies' have a userid the first time they post, so THAT IS WORKING.

What is NOT working is the 'Guest' posting. There has been an onslaught of personal attacks again lately. This interferes with the intention of this board in many ways.

Would you please consider restricting posts to those who are registered?

Or, alternately, but with much more work involved, do not allow registered users to log on as 'guest'.

I am speaking for myself in letting you know that I have spent a good 'out of pocket' sum at cpap.com, not only due to price, but as a show of 'support'.

You must know by now that your support of this forum has been a life saver for many of us.

So, please don't let us lose the expertise of the best of what you have here!

Frustration is at an all-time high
.

Please think on this, and hopefully you will agree that it is finally time to restrict posting to registered users.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hmmmm.....let's see........ You're a "registered user"......posting anonymously as a "guest" .......requesting that the forum administrators restrict posting to registered members......

WELL.......YOU'VE GOT ME CONFUSED!!! (which doesn't take a whole lot)

And, I still vote "NO"!!!

I'm seeing a lot of new users coming here. I'm glad to see that. This the best forum in it's category on the Internet. Some of them stay and some of them don't. It's been this way since I arrived. There have been a number of times when I considered leaving, too.....but not because of the "mean guests"......I won't give them that satisfaction.

By the way, we all seem to eventually get in the crosshairs of the "mean guests"......it's just a matter of time. I can speak from experience.

Best wishes,

Den

I try not to respond to this type of post, BUT...
I must write this under 'Guest' because I represent multiple registered users,
This is no excuse to not use your registered name.
I have not seen any users who did not seem able to speak for themselves.
Would you please consider restricting posts to those who are registered?
This has been discussed before and Johnny addressed it already.

Some of the meanest things I've read came from registered users.
Most of us have enough common sense to decide what is 'good' info and what is 'bad'. We have the freedom to read, or not read whichever posts we want.

In my case it is posts like this that detract from this forum. This is a matter that could have been handled by PM or e-mail more effectively (IMHO).

I am speaking for myself in letting you know that I have spent a good 'out of pocket' sum at cpap.com, not only due to price, but as a show of 'support'.
So have alot of other people! What's your point there? Do what you want or you won't shop here anymore???

I think Johnny is doing a great job here and most certainly doesn't need your help!

Brenda

Anyway, "registered user/guest" could have signed his(their) name(s) to the post, yet chose not to. To my mind, that makes this just more trolling.

I agree absolutely, bdp522.

Registered Guest: there's a very simple way to stop letting yourself be frustrated. Just ignore posts that bother you. No filtering or banning guests from posting needed. Just a little self control.

One of the big reasons, imho, that this message board is so good is that there is a great mix of opinions and viewpoints - contributed by registered users AND guests, even registered users who prefer to post as a guest at times, as you are doing.

I've seen personal "slamming" take place on this and other message boards all along. There's nothing new or on the increase about that, that I can see. That simply is going to happen on message boards that have few restrictions.

I personally have never posted as a Guest on this message board except for one post...in a purely humorous thread where people were choosing silly guest names to continue the humor. However, I have no problem at all with the fact that registered users may choose to post as a guest for any number of reasons.

Johnny Goodman is doing a fine job, imho, having put in as few controls as necessary - just those needed to deal with spam.

You're definitely not speaking for this registered user, Registered Guest.

This is another vote for allowing guest posts-for the same reasons given above.

If any member is personnally e-mailed by a guest or other registered member using bullying or stalking language it is illegal. The e-mail should be saved and reported to the administrators of the forum and if stalking in nature should be reported to the police in your community. They cyber bullying we saw recently is usually seen in much younger age groups and outside of a school is more difficult to pursue legally-although it is illegal and one could decide to pursue it. Do an online search for cyber bullying, cyber harassment, and cyber stalking.

I think you need to find a forum for the mentally unstable. If you don't like it here then LEAVE! It is that simple.

What was it they used to say.... Don't let the proverbial hose hit you on the butt on the way out, we won't leave the light on for ya (or was that Motel6?). as our Govenator would say Has ta la vesta baby adios.

I posted these portions in a thread yesterday called: Delete Spam
I believe they are germane to the discussion here:

When there is a flame attack, it makes me want to be the fireman. It takes a pretty small person to cut someone else down in order to feel superior.

Rested gal Laura stated that she has never posted without using her own name. I have not either. To my mind, that is a responsibility to the integrity of the forum. Should I not post my name, then the content of the post must be unacceptable.

The exception would be the "Guest" who is a registered member, yet posts anonymously for the purposes of sharing information that could jeopardize the poster's job or contacts. I totally support the "guest" posting option in this case.

With that said, are we so immature that we cannot ignore some of these attacks? Only if one believes what the bully says about oneself can one truly be hurt. Answering emotionally only feeds the flamer in the manner that flamer desires.

In caring for this forum and its members, we need to remember that more of us sharing our knowledge makes a stronger and more valuable forum. Part of that sharing is maintaining a standard for contributions, and supporting each other.

I firmly believe that this is true of guests as well as forum members.

Surely we may agree to disagree in a fair and balanced discussion. I thought that was the underlying concept for the term, "forum."
I believe the last statement today just as strongly as yesterday.

WOW! A message from the leader of a 'Secret Society.' Awesome! Can I join too? Aw shucks, I think I just blew my chances because I forgot to sign in as 'Follower of the Registered User Guest.'

Gee, I always thought that my sleep depraved little mind came up with some astoundingly profound ideas, but a petition to disallow unregistered persons to join the forum whilst hiding behind the annonimity of Guest status yourself is absolutely brilliant! I certainly hope that you are getting all the attention now that you were so desirous of.

I have very diverse interests, and visit quite a few boards on the internet.
This one here is by far the best behaved one I've seen, so I would doubt eliminating guest posting would change things a lot.

I visit some political boards where things REALLY get scary.
As Count Floyd (from SCTV) would say. "It will scare the pants off you, kids"

Ya can't take it personally, Chuck. I've been in Snoredog's crosshairs before, too. Let it go. He's an old dog, and he's not gonna change his ways.

My advice to any newbies would be to listen carefully to Snoredog's advice about xPAP, and then disregard the rest.
