Natural thing to happen?

Post by LilBuckaroo » Sat Feb 19, 2005 7:58 pm

Hello, again fellow hosers! To begin, y’all that have following my posts should know that I am not a complainer, nor am I a “wo is me” type of person. None of us asked to become afflicted with this condition, but we have it and have to live with it. For 57+ years, I had slept “untethered”. By that, I mean no mask, hose, or machine. That ended approximately 7 weeks ago, when on 01/03/05, I became the proud owner of a mask, hose and a CPAP. The first few weeks went fine. Then I think reality must have set in and I realized what a pain the treatment can be, with all the cleaning, making sure the humidifier is filled, the tethered feeling, etc. By reality, I mean, “Hey, this is the real thing! You’re going to be doing this for as long as you live”! No more roaming around while sleeping. And pre-CPAP, I DID roam around while “sleeping”, if I was “sleeping” at all!

I have had some good and some bad nights, followed by good and bad days. Fortunately, on the whole, I would have to say that the good nights and days have outnumbered the bad ones. I know that before CPAP, I had the same good and bad nights and days, as well.

Is this a “natural” thing to happen? We all know that it is not “natural” to sleep with a mask strapped to our heads. FYI, I am using a CPAP set @10, and an UltraMirage FF mask. I will continue to use the FF mask due to nasal congestion. I have and use Flonase, AllegraD, and generic benadryl for the congestion, which works sometimes. Also, I have 2 FF’s and don’t want to purchase any more. Nasal pillows would not do me any good either. And I actually like the mask as far as liking a mask goes! I have my hose routed through a hole in the headboard of my bed, (formerly a water bed frame) thus eliminating most of the weight of the hose on my mask and allowing some flexibility for my movements.

Again folks, thanks for listening to me. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Sleep well and take care!

I am glad to see your emblem and hear you again. I too hit that ''wall'' after 3 wks but am getting better. It's the reality check we must all face, that we have to do this forever. Well I look at it this way, forever will sure as he-- be a lot shorter if we DON"T, right?

On that cheery note, me and ambien and my swifty are heading to bed. Maybe if lucky, I'll sleep.

Glad you can handle the ff mask. that's good news, too. Me, I'm swiftin', and maybe next wk,I"ll be breezin'...we'll see. But I have learned one thing, for those of us lucky to have supportive partners, is 3/4's of the battle.

Keep hosin'
