2 Married hoseheads, sharing questions. Any ideas?

Post by ready2sleep » Tue Oct 24, 2006 1:57 pm

Hi, me and my husband are both cpap users. Hes not quite as compliant as I am. Neither of us have seen much of a difference. However, my rheumatologist checks the card every month to check the progress, and make sure I am compliant. Now, on to my question. We both wear the F&P 431. Mine small his medium. He has a leak rate of 71% how can I get that down? He was at pressure 12, he was still snoring, I tweaked it and its now 14 on straight cpap and no snoring whatsoever. I got his AHI down to under 5, Im thrilled. My problem is that I was using it for about 2-3 weeks with no problems, now all of a sudden I am apparently waking up in the middle of the night pulling off the mask? When I wake up, I dont even remember having done it? Strange. Any ideas out there for both of these issues?

I don't know why, but many hoseheads find they pull the mask off sometimes. Last night I couldn't STAND the air pressure and I pulled it off for a while, even tho I have been compliant for months now. I managed to get it back on after about an hour.

It WILL get better if you just put it back on everytime you find you have removed it.

Does your unit have an alarm? Some of them will beep loudly to wake you when they detect a really severe leak, like when the mask is off.

You might be able to make it harder to remove the mask. Make some straps out of old pantyhose legs, and find ways to tie it around the mask so that it is harder to remove.

Both you and your husband are on cpap? How does that work out for you? I have never heard a couple on cpap before? Was it planned? You said neither of you feel much better are both of you compliant or just you?

My wife and I are on XPAPs. We both use the Auto BiPAP and now we are both back on the Swift masks.

I love the Breeze, but the end where the pillows are has sharp edges, so I don't wear it all the time. I take some 400 grit sandpaper to it, then try it, then sand some more. It is like having a sharp edge digging into your face. Not painful, just uncomfortable.

Anyway, the most interesting thing is when we get a new (used) mask to try.
I get it in, clean it again (even though the seller cleaned it too) and I show up that evening with a different mask. She grills me about it, then asks when can she try it. Yep, you guessed it, she gets it the first night. If she likes it she wears it awhile, then I try it. But so far we have went back to our Swifts.

Her only complaint is that my machine occaisionally cranks up and the air
coming out of my mask is real noisy. She wakes me up, I turn the BiPAP off and wait about a minute, then turn it on again. It is fine then.

We do have a lot of empathy for each other when one of us has trouble with a machine. Apria is excellent here, they had a machine out to me the same day when my first BiPAP malfunctioned.

Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.
