PB420E QUESTIONs

Post by Ms Piggy » Mon Oct 23, 2006 8:33 pm

Does anyone know why the 420 E would show 2 apneas on the synthesis report and not show them on the detailed graph?

also I was curious to know the duration of apneas etc., but couldn't find that info. is it there somewhere?? I noticed that some of the lines on the graph are a bit wider than others so I assume those lasted longer.

How would I know when I am in REM sleep etc? does anything indicate that?

My machine is
currently set at 6 - 12 and 7, but has only been down to using 6 with a top of 9, It mostly sits on 6 with less time at 7, so tonight am going to set it at 5 - 10 and 7 as that was my tritration figure, does this sound ok? I wondered if the PB 6 is the same as the Remstar 7.

No...

The thick lines can be two apnea one after the other....

The only way to identify REM sleep is through observing the sleeping person's Rapid Eye Movements, or their EEG. I know of now xPAP machine that does either of them.
You could try guessing at when you're in REM buy calculating about 90 mins from when you fall asleep - but that is very rough, and personally I wouldn't rely on it - nothing tell you when you (as opposed to Jane Average) cycle into REM.

I set up the ramp duration for its minimum of 5 mins (since I don't use it) and decided to hit it when I wake up annoyed by the machine or leaks, as an indication of "really sleepless but no potty break". You may want to try something similar for when you "wake up from a dream". Again, this is something I pesronally would not want to do, since one of the pleasures of xPAP therapy for me is the ability to turn over, snuggle down and fall asleep again within seconds.

Properly calibrated machines should give out the same pressure when showing the same numbers. That is, in theory, an PB pressure of 6 is the same as a Resmed pressure of 6. Your titrated set pressure is the lowest pressure at which they had you with minimum apneas. The PB informs you of "pressure efficient for 90% of the time" (Pressure tab, text icon, right panel) meaning that you spent most of the night at that pressure, or lower. If you're courious, you can change the 90% to anything you like, with the help of the tool button (bottom right corner).

What do you mean by 7 - an intial pressure of 7? Do you need an initially higher pressure in order to fall asleep? If not, why not leave the initial pressure, and the minmum pressure at the same level?

O.
