Final Trek I Hope ? Needed

Post by whatrdreamsmadeof » Sun Oct 22, 2006 2:44 pm

Hi Guys,
Tomorrow I am making what I hope will be my final trek to the dreaded sleep lab for a repeat titration. Today I made the homemade manometer and according to it my vantage is only delivering half the pressure it is suppose to. If this has been the case all along, after trying to get the dme to check it..........boy am I going to be mad.......... Still I am making the trek and would love for you to suggest some questions I should ask the techs. With my last titration botched up I would like to go in prepared this time to have it done correctly........you all have been a terrific support for me, and you have all kept me compliant and going forward...........so send your thoughts and questions to me.....they are greatly appreciated ........Ellen

did you read the manometer correctly by "adding" up the cm readings found on BOTH sides of the manometer?

With a U-tube manometer (the simpliest kind), one side will go up above the Zero mark and the other side will go down by the same amount on the other side, so if you connected it and it read 4.0cm on one side of the tube, the other side should have gone down by 4.0cm also, so when you ADD those 2 values together you get the total 8.0cm reading. If it read 4.5cm on oneside that is 9.0cm, etc.

The fancy ones have that all calibrated in the rule, the one you make doesn't. It will be accurate if you add the two sides or simply double the reading seen.

If you set your machine's Min. pressure to 7.0cm, then the manometer should show 3.5cm on the gage, so you would double the reading. Since you don't know what the machine will do at higher pressure and it is a autopap, switch the mode from Autoset to cpap mode and set the pressure to 10cm or 11 and check it there.

Hold the mask tight so you stop any mask leak between your face and the cushion, mask exhaust leak should remain as is.

If the machine is delivering the correct pressure when you double the values seen on the manometer the two should match. if the manometer says 4.0cm (8.0cm) and the machine says 8.8cm, then the machine is off.

Snoredog, you are so the best....At least I made the manometer correctly.......I just read it wrong...I rechecked it and bingo both sides together equal what i had the machine set at.....You rock one stress down, now on to the lab........ I feel for all those mice we humans test on......
