Good idea gone bad

Post by krousseau » Fri Oct 20, 2006 10:09 pm

Made a 4 layer superinsulated hose cover. Rather hefty and needs to be secured to the bed. The idea seemed good but didn't realize it would have so much mass that the heat output from the humidifier would never be able to heat it up-I got enough rainout to take a shower the first time I used it. It works well if I coil it up and put it on a heating pad under the blankets about an hour before bed-then I have a warm bed too. We'll see how well it works once the really cold weather starts. We have tons of acorns this fall-a local Miwuk Indian says that means a cold winter.

My Grandkids gave me pajamas they helped to tie dye. On our first day of rain I sewed that "super" hose cover, fleece socks, mask strap covers, chin strap cover, and a sleeping cap-all in tie-dye pattern fleece. When I visited the kids last week with all my gear-my Grandson looked at me in the outfit and said "you're camouflaged".

you can count on that then. But what happened to the gray Squirrels? I drive up through Miwuk Village on 108 on my way up to Hull Creek to camp and ride my 4x4 ATV. Lots of Miwuk's up there.

But it gets cold in Jackson too, used to pass through there on my way up to Bear Valley to ski.

I'm off 88 closer to Kirkwood-and besides-cross county ski or snowshoe and Kirkwood has good trails.

We don't see many squirrels??? The deer are munching the acorns though.

Hose warming

Post by kteague » Sat Oct 21, 2006 3:40 am

krousseau - I love to read your posts, and have a lot of respect for your insights. Saw this idea of yours about pre-warming the hose in the bed in the thread of NYNurse's about rainout. For those who may not have or be able to go buy a heating pad, I posted a household tip there for those who want to improvise.

With all the talk about cold weather, I was reminded of my Mom's response when a relative gave her a microwaveble heating pad for Christmas. She said they used to lay a rock on top of the wood stove for a few minutes then wrap it in a towel and put it at the foot of the bed. Whatever works, right!

Thanks again.

Kathy

Kathy-I had forgotten all about the heated rock. Just the thing for bed this winter. Our source of heat is a wood stove-so heating up a rock is just the thing-much more aesthetically pleasing than a Sumbeam electric pad. Some nights I think about all the electrical equipment arcing over and getting fried by my cpap at my head and heating pad at my feet .

I have not given much thought as to why I don't get rainout.

After reading this post I have realized that because I sleep with the hose next to me in my heated water bed I should never see any rainout.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body totally worn out and screaming,WOO HOO what a ride!

Great tips you guys, I remember we would bury some potatoes in the leaves we would burn in Long Island, wrap them in foil, put them in our pockets and walk in the snow to school.........We could toss some hot potatoes in the bed, warm the hose and wake up with a good hot potato breakfast!!!!!!!!!
