S8 Vantage CPAP mode with EPR for aerophagia

Post by Maryb » Wed Oct 18, 2006 11:05 am

I posted a version of this message on another thread but wanted to start a new thread on it as well.
I have been struggling with aerophagia. I finally tried CPAP mode with EPR (for the past 3 nights) and I really loved it. It's just so much easier and more comfortable. I find I swallow less air (aerophagia was therefore better) and as an added bonus for some reason my mask leakage is WAY LESS. The lowest I've ever had.
I used a pressure setting of 9 and an EPR of 3. (note: my originally titration was for 8 to 14).
The trouble is that my AHI numbers were too high (7.6 on night #1 and 10 on the two subsequent nights). So I guess I'll have to turn the pressure up and see if I can still keep all the nice benefits.
For those of you who have experience with EPR, what is a reasonable ramp time? And how low should the ramp be set for? Does it matter how low it is? Is it just a question of what is comfortable?

I am running a Bilevel with IPAP/EPAP gap of 3 which simulates EPR of 3 ( in a sense ).

I too found a big drop in aerophagia. & I am hooked on the ehxhalation pressure dropping. I can go back to cpap ok but just like the exhalation drop.

Re the ramp, I would start at 6 or 7 for 15 mins. Experiment.

Good luck

xPAP and Quattro std mask (plus a pad-a-cheek anti-leak strap)
