Can you make a Plus a Pro by changing Smart card unit?

Post by IORHHI » Tue Oct 17, 2006 5:58 pm

Is the data collection information in the unit that snaps into the side of my RemStar Plus CPAP with C-flex exchangable for one that records the PRO data? Or is the information collected by hardware/in the RemStar unit itself?

That is to say, can I pull the box off the end of my M series machine and replace it with one from a PRo and get the additional data?

And if so, can I buy that unit separate from the whole PRO machine?
TIA,
Barbara

No. The Plus only records "compliance" data while the Pro and Auto record the "detailed" sleep data.

The Hairy one is right. The plus can not be upgraded to a Pro or Auto.

You can buy the smart card M series module on cpap.com. Here is what the site says.

M Series Smartcard Module

$ 59.99

Part Number 1027563: 2 currently in stock
Key Product Information

Manufacturer: Respironics

This is the smart card module and one smart card that can be used to download compliance data off a Respironics M Series Plus CPAP Machine.

The M Series Pro and M Series Auto come with this module, but the Plus does not.

My semi-educated guess is that the difference is a software upgrade.

Just to back up why I say semi-educated, is that having dismantled
- An S7 Elite CPAP
- An S7 Spirit AUTO
- A VPAP III Bilevel

They were all the same inside ! (AFAICT (as far as I could tell))

I even swapped the blower assembly between them & they all ran just as they always do

I know these aren't Respironics units (Respironics units do tend to differ markedly in their internals from model to model), but the principal of software control is similar. Until the BiPap Auto, most of the Bipaps had a similar internal configuration but did increase in sophistication over time.

The Bipap Pro 2 can record normal nightly data but the more sophisticated Bipap S/T machines only provide AHI summary data plus minute ventilation data.

I suspect it is a matter of firmware

(and perhaps a few of the little electric parts too)

the pcb in my machine (rem star pro 2) is same pcb as the auto but I have no way of knowing if the loading parts are the same
