Hello to everybody,
In my confusion to log onto this site, I kept getting refusals and thought they wanted a new username, thus Abner was chosen. Later, I discovered that the original username was still good. So, I have two usernames and no idea of how to get it straightened out. I will try to get it corrected and I apologize for the confusion this may have caused. Carter

Abner/Carter, sitting up to sleep and cpap
Thanks College Girl for the advise on logging in. I THINK that I have took your advice on that issue. I am not doing well in cpapese or working with this site so far. But, I plan to keep on trying and maybe I'll start to get some of it right soon.
I have finally received my cpap study materials from the sleep center and find it as baffling as everything else. My C-PAP-ese is not up to snuff yet. Can someone tell me what the software is about and how I might come to terms with it. What do I do with it and where do I find it.
Also, how do I learn about what I am reading on the site? AI-HI-IPAP-EPAP-AH1-BiFlex 2-SWS-SAG-RG's-etc.
Good news for me. I have been able to actually go to sleep sitting up in the daytime twice and once at night. This has been a major hurdle for me. But, on the third day, I ran into my problem of jerking the mask off in order to catch up on my breathing again and I put the mask right back on. It happened again and again---I finally gave up. I will be trying again. It appears that this cure is going to take a while and patience.

RG = Rested Gal - a member. Well... a bit more than that as you're sure to find out
SWS = Slow Wave Sleep
-SWS = another member, who happens lack slow wave sleep (like many of us) and... well, that you'll find out too.
SAG = Stll Another Guest (a member registered under that name) -
As for the collective wisdom of those imporant members, and others of us - you can bone up on that by clicking on the light bulb (top third of the screen). And don't worry about not knowing other acronyms and terms - most of us have been where you are today, and I think we remember who strange it all seemed and how many questions we had - I do at least.
There are no stupid questions on this forum.
O.
P.S. - my logging in experience (Windows XP, Service Pack 2) from an ISP at the other side of the world is like College Girl's (CG's). When I run into trouble logging in, I know it's time to search for a cpaptalk cookie and delete it.

Thanks Ozij for clearing up some of the fog of terms and the encouragement. Everything helps about now as I am so frustrated with trying and failing at what ought not be a problem. Going to sleep with the cpap in use was not a problem on three occassions in the last week. I did not use it very long but long enough to go to sleep hooked up and that was my hurdle. Next time I couldn't stay hooked up, for lack of air or something.
Thanks to Ms Piggy also for the suggestion to use the mask in practice. That has already worked for me. My Ativa nose mask is very comfortable and I don't think that I have any air leaking, at least while I am conscious and awake. I do jerk the mask off rather suddenly when I feel as though I am smothering and can't seem to get enough air but, it isn't because the mask is uncomfortable. I can't seem to breathe deeply enough in those times----and off comes the mask.
I have received my sleep study from the sleep center and am in the process of trying to understand the terminology in order to be able to ask questions. I don't think that there is anything wrong with my equipment. I am inclined to think that I am the problem. My problem may include anxiety, stuffy nose and a little closterphobia (if I spelled that right). All three seem to fit me. I have learned this by reading some of the posts on this site. But, I don't know what I can do about these things. Maybe I will make a good screamer on Halloween. I feel like some one else out there has had a similar situation to overcome, unless they quit. It does look hopeless.
