Eczema keeps breaking out on my face

Post by ready2sleep » Sat Oct 14, 2006 4:05 pm

I could really use the help this site has to offer. Both my husband and I are cpap users. Only, I have ezcema, and my face is breaking out so bad. I have my equipment info on the bottom. My pressure is at 8. I have the humidifier at 2. I really dont want to stop having to use my cpap machine but my face is bad, and itchy. I have an appt with the dermatologist next week. But all the creams they give me I cannot use under my mask, I am afraid it wouldnt hold a seal then. Any thoughts? All are appreciated!!! Thanks in advance.

There are several masks such as the swift which touch the upper lip and nose and only the harness touches elsewhere. These are nasal pillow masks.

I have ezcema and psoriasis. The first couple of weeks I broe out terribly. Since then the area under the mask is in better shape than the rest of my face! I do use a cream that I only have to apply once a day to begin with, then every few days as the skin clears up. It's called NYTATIN and TRIAMCINOLONE ACETONIDE cream USP. I've had this condition for over 30 years and this is the first cream that could be applied so infrequently and still work.

Ive have had ezcema all my life, and you are right, Triamcinolone cream does clear it up, I am hoping I get a rx for that next week at the drs. along with a shot, i usually get a shot 2x a year too. Anybody have any home remedies until I get in to see the dr? Im trying to be compliant but I guess I cant have it both ways until I see the dr.

I would try any cortisone cream in a pinch. Cortaid or any of those. Just use 1x a day and very very very tiny amounts! It should hold it in check until you see the MD. Just don't use it for too long, a couple of weeks tops.

I, too, have localized psoriasis and occasional eczema.

Using the Swift and the ComfortLite systems I have had no problems with eczema. Both are nasal interfaces, not masks. (I have never used the simple seal, which is like a tiny little mask.)

Until you see the dermatologist, here are a couple of suggestions:

My niece has eczema. Since she was very young (under a year) she has been totally lubed daily with Eucerin fragrance-free. I don't know if that will help you, but it might be worth a try. (She also uses Elidel, since she was about age 2 years.)

Another consideration: some discussions on the forum have dealt with a possible silicone allergy. My mother had a problem with silicone; I have had a problem with soft nosepads on my glasses. When the nosepads were changed, I had no more red, irritated and sore marks.

Readytosleep,

The F & P 431 does have silicone in it which may be your problem.

You can check out their masks at:

I had a similar problem but it wasnt the silicone, it was sweating from the full face mask.
