Any magicians out there?

Post by cpaper » Fri Feb 18, 2005 8:12 am

Calling all magicians:

How do you scratch your nose without taking the mask off?
Drives me mad!

I don't know about anyone else. I keep a pet hamster in my mask, and any time I need a good scratching, I just roll over, which disturbs him and he scrabbles around trying to get comfortable again. Problem solved.

(I agree with you, what a HORRIBLE problem! I haven't found a good solution, I just accept the momentary leak and lift it up and jab my finger in there.)

Liam, whose use of hamsters IN NO WAY rivals Richard Gere's.

(And yes, I know the Richard Gere story is apocryphal. Still funny.)

Thought that was gerbils? Hamsters prolly wouldn't work as well cuz they don't have tails...

Anyway, I am with Liam, I lift and scratch...

Mike who thought it was manly to lift and scratch...

This is one of the reasons I use a (nasal pillow) interface (the Swift). The (Breeze) is the best for nose scratching access.

Liam, Maybe that hamster sleeping on your face is why you can't fall asleep.

BTW, is that a Newhamster?

on a side note: the parentheses fake out the auto-URL conversions

Boy, with the two of you on here, I don't have to worry about being quite as creative, because both of those replies were WONDERFUL.

Oh, and quotes seem to work as well. It seems as though white space (and perhaps simple punctuation like . and , ) is their field delimiter, if it doesn't exactly match between whitespace, it doesn't get auto URL'd.

Liam, who wants his name to be an auto-link.

Muck: Instead of "tricking" the auto links, you can opt out as you post by clicking "Disable Autolinks in this Post".

Liam: Liam can be made into an auto link. Click "Suggest A New Keyword Link" above, and give me a URL to associate it with. If you don't want to do all that scrolling, just click this keywords.php?mode=input

I may try a Breeze mask one day, but for now I'm opting for a hamster - cheaper, plus if I get peckish in the night...

Johnny,

We're just trying to figure out how to avoid an auto URL when want and leave them in when we want without applying a blanket format to the entire post. I've noticed that sometimes it shows a link that is not germain to the particular usage of the linked word. Unless you preview the particular post you don't see what gets linked. I do think with some tweaking it could be a good system.

When I'm peckish I opt for crunchy frog...

I was largely kidding, but since you suggested it, I sent in a suggestion linking me to my website, which currently is just a blog with a few essays on it.

If you want to auto-link, that's cool. If you think it not appropriate to the discussion, that's fine as well.

(Actually, I should probably have it link directly to the essay on my sleep study.)

Thanks!

Liam, a floor wax AND a dessert topping.

Liam, A Person, A Verb, An Autolink

Howdy,

I've added your autolink. A link back to cpaptalk from your blog would be cool too!

I'm still learning how it works, but I'll try to figure out how to. Perhaps I'll put a dedication to the folks here in the header to the Sleep Study essay, and a link there. I think I know how to do that.

Thanks, Johnny!

Liam, the only non-golfer to be thrilled to be out on the links.

Howdy,

You have a good point here. However, if we let users choose where to link and where not to link we're back to square one. Or worse, they have to learn new skills when posting, which is always a slow process.

I've considered changing the link font to look just like the regular text. Another thing we may do is put a threshhold on links. Ie. Only link to the first instance of CPAP, Breeze, etc.

Is there a way we could make keyword entries more relevant?

Regards,
Johnny
