RemStarM Auto:Initial setup/changing settings/card/ramp/any?

Post by SelfSeeker » Thu Oct 05, 2006 9:42 am

I started this post, so whoever has questions about the RemStar M Auto can post in here.

I am getting my machine tonight, so I will need to know how to set it up.

I will ask questions after I read the manual and set it up.

Do I need to do anything with the Encore Pro to change settings in the APAP?

Edit: added any ? to title.

When you read your card, Encore Pro will read your machine mode, you can also program the machine from the card. (write a prescription.) Jim

Congratulations!
You don't need to do anything with Encore Pro to change settings. Any changes (in my opinion) should be made through the LCD panel (setup mode) in the machine.

Best wishes,

I agree with Den. Although I have changed settings via the Encore Pro software's "Create Prescription", I find it easier and quicker to make pressure settings changes using the buttons on the machine. Doing it via the machine in the "setup" menu also gives you the opportunity to check ALL your settings. It's not a bad idea to walk through the entire setup menu -- just to be sure everything is the way you want it. "Create prescription" in the software doesn't show ALL the items that can be adjusted. The machine's LCD setup menu does.

Also, the "down side" of using the card to program the machine is that the card gets erased (previously stored data) when it is programmed from Encore Pro.

I agree with Wulfman and RG, program it via the LCD, very easy to do and much faster.

The machine should come with a credit card sized cheat sheet for programming, look for it in the box (should be with the User Manual in the clear plastic bag).

The mode should come set to AFLE (autopap w/clfex enabled).
Suggest trying CFLEX setting of 2 to start with (it is a comfort setting if you feel hypervent, then lower the setting to 1). It should be comfortable to breathe with (it shouldn't rush or slow down your breathing).

You will need to increase the Min. pressure from default 4.0cm to something higher like 5.0cm or even 6.0cm. This is so you don't starve for air just breathing normally while trying to fall asleep.

Also a good ideal to lower the Max. pressure setting down from default 20cm to 1 or 2cm above your last titration pressure. The reason you do this is a safety measure to prevent the machine from a runaway pressure increase in case it misreads your SDB. Runaway pressure can trigger central apnea of which you always want to avoid.

Snoredog, you said: "The machine should come with a credit card sized cheat sheet for programming, look for it in the box (should be with the User Manual in the clear plastic bag)."

I've received my M Auto from cpap.com but haven't set it up yet. I just looked again at what I received and the only credit card sized thing I received is the encorepro smart card. Is this what you're referring to or was something missing in my shipment? Can you tell me what it would say on the cheat sheet card?

Thanks,

I just got home with my Remstar M Auto.

The quick guide, is about 8 x 10 inches. If you got it form a DME it will have been taken out.

Thank you, SelfSeeker. I did get that. It's titled Provider Quick Setup Guide.

Melissa, I wish you had gotten the Setup Guide, too. The online DMEs say they have to give us this because no local DMEs will set up or service products we don't buy from them. That gives the impression that local DMEs will give the service we need IF we do buy from them. For many, that is not the case. How many of us ever received a followup visit, or even call, from the DME to check on how everything was working?

I still say it would have been proper and professional for your DME to call your doctor to get the minimum and maximum pressure to set your new Auto at. The 4 - 20 cm H2O is, I believe, what they are set with at the factory and then reset by DME to pressures specific to the patient, except perhaps if the patient is being titrated at home on Auto.

Just my 2 cents worth. Everyone, feel free to correct or set me straight. I want to learn everything I can about apnea and treatment.

Thanks Den and Rested Gal.

(THis is not a good night to have connection problems )

Alisha, that is the one.

Melissa,
the main peice of information on the card, if you want to adjust the settings:
Unplug the machine, hold down the two arrows and replug the machine. This will give you acess to the setup functions. press the+ to get to the setup side. arrows will show the data.

s

1. How do I erase the info on the machine?
THere is 1 session of 30 days
.18 h/night therapy for 30 days
one session>4
25.2 L/min

2. I put Mask Alert on. If I need to take off mask during night, should I tun off the APAP.

3. Auto Off, I do not understand this feature. What is it, should I have it off or on.

You can't turn off CFlex without going into setup. If it is off, you can't turn it on, unless you go to set up. Very annoying.

I can do this, I will do this.

Thanks Snoredog.

I hate when the machine goes on when you put on the mask. It was like that at the DME when I was trying on the masks. I hated it. I rather be warned if my mask is off, and I turn on the machine. I was not sure what it meant, just had experienced the function. Who knows, in a few years I may change my mind.

The auto off, may be a very good feature, for someone who may fall asleep putting on the mask without having the chance to turn on the machine. or if there are young children who may want to be like a parent and try out the machine/mask

I unplugged my machine, to get to the Data stuff. Other then blower showing 8 something hours, no oter info was given. (the .18 h/night was still there.)

I wanted to see how I did, what settings, AHI and leak. I know it leaked a few times. But I think there was a consistant small leak.

I can do this, I will do this.
