I use tap water

Post by Both_Sides_Now » Tue Sep 26, 2006 4:30 pm

I've used straight tap water for three years without incident. This is mostly in Fisher & Paykel machines with the disposable chambers, so they can be very succeptable to mineral deposit buildup, pitting and then holing. (Ah, but the humidification system is special, and well worth replacing chambers)

My solution (excuse the pun) is to use a straight vinegar soak in the chamber for an hour or two every week, give it a good swish, then rinse the heck out of it with clean water. Seems to work well as I get about 6 months out of each one, sometimes more.

In locations where there are more minerals than water in the water I use CLR as the soak, then thoroughly rinse out the chamber. This too does the job.

Really? They let you take a thermos through security onto an airplane? With liquid in it?

The thermos must be in your luggage, not on carry on. For carry on, it must now be bought in a secure area and I have never found distilled water. But the thermos will not leak and I don't like spending time driving around trying to find distilled water.
