CL2 difference between the cushions and direct seal

Post by imsotired » Sun Sep 24, 2006 3:17 pm

Can someone please clarify the difference between these two options for me. If I am understanding correctly the pillows don't go inside your nostrils as much as the direct seal? TIA!

I currently use the nasal pillows and was only giving the simple cushion interface (small mask thing) and the pillows for this particular mask. I was not given the direct seal. But from my understanding, the pillows only slightly go into your nostrils, while the direct seal does not go into your nose at all, but I may be wrong. Even the fact that the pillows go into your nose, they don't go in far at all.

Correct. The pillows have a small portion that fits into the nares (you don't feel it). The outer portion of the pillows is larger and fits against the nares.

The direct seal fits inside your nostrils - much like prongs made by other manufacturers.

Sorry NYNurse. We were typing at the same time.

CL2 means that you get two out of three interfaces. Your choices are:

Simple cushion and Pillows
or
Simple cushion and Direct Seal (prongs).

You can't get Direct Seal and Pillows (unless someone has a friendly DME).

We seem to have different ideas about how the Direct Seal fits. Perhaps someone who has them can clarify.

The CL2 direct seal does go into the nose a bit. I tried the cushions, but had problems with leaks. I got the direct seal from my friendly DME and have had really good luck with it. Very low leak rate, and IMHO very comfortable. It might not work as well for you as everyone is different, but it might be worth a try. I just love my CL2

I could not make either work. I never got the angle right. However, I had more luck with the direct seal. The direct seal is larger and fits up into your nostrils.
