Side effects.. sore teeth and jaw and deafnesss

Post by christallon » Sun Sep 24, 2006 2:13 pm

I have been using cpap for the past 7 years and have gotten quite use to it. However i am anxious to link with anyone who discover some jaw realignment after extended use. Also, is there anyone who has experience deafness as result of congestion. I think may have been from using cpap during a period of 'cold' or flu.. any solutions would be appreciated..Thanks

I am going to an ENT tomorrow. I have had worse hearing with CPAP. I really think it is a temporary thing where my ears get stuffed. Problem is they never have time to really unstuff before the next night of CPAP.

I have never had the best hearing, was an ear infection child. But I am going to see an ENT to see just how bad it is.

Bottom line is I would rather be a little deaf than tired. But at some point I wonder if I will be a candidate for hearing aids.

This is very timely for me, since I woke up this morning with what feels like an ear infection -- something I haven't had in many years.

I think that it's probably related to the sinus irrigation kit I bought a few days ago after reading someone's review of it on this forum. I used it for the second time yesterday and this morning the pain in my right ear was pretty bad.

On the other hand, it could be some combination of the kit, the CPAP, and the lingering effects of a recent cold.

Other than that I haven't had any major physical problems with CPAP, except for an occasional heavy feeling in my lungs and a slight increase in volume for my tinitus. Now if I could just set that sound to music . . . .

Please fill in your profile with your equipment so it shows on the bottom of your postings. That way, we can see what you are using and perhaps make some suggestions.

Please be sure to include your pressure.

You can do a forum search also. I know I've seen topics in the past that deal with "sore teeth" or "jaw". Also, "ear" problems.

All that said, I'm very careful about my ears. I do think sinus irrigation kits have warnings about ears. Be very careful not to use too much pressure when irrigating.

Too much cpap pressure hurts my ears. I find I can tolerate a little higher AHI's more than I do ear pain, or my ears being stopped up like I have been flying.

And lastly, I have to keep my heated humidifier set very low (on 1). Too much warm moisture air combined with pressure can go straight to your ear canals.

I have been through bouts where my ears get affected by 2 things ...

1) From using a saline nasal rinse, I find my ears tend to be affected.

2) When I was starting out & on 15 cms, I would often go to bed,
then if I swallowed my ears would pop a little & that seemed to carry over on some days.

Hope this snippet helps.

Good luck
