still snoring

Post by justsharon » Sat Sep 23, 2006 10:07 am

I've been using my cpap for about 6 weeks.....my husband says I am still snoring. MUCH softer than before, but still snoring. My pressure is at 10.4. And I am still waking up at night. Have yet to feel that REALLY rested feel I keep reading about. Any suggestions?

it all depends on what your PSG sleep study says and why they stopped at 10.4cm pressure.

If you had any CA or MA's noted on your PSG report it could explain why you are still snoring at that pressure. If they increased pressure to eliminate the snoring it could be enough pressure to trigger central events. Central apnea (CA) events should be avoided at all costs.

Snores are not associated with a drop in oxygen levels, CA events are. If you reviewed your PSG and didn't see any CA or MA events noted, you could try increasing the pressure by 1cm. But I wouldn't go any higher.

Are you using the same mask as your lab titration? Has the machine been checked to ensure it is delivering accurate pressure?

I had no CA or MA events, had 148 obstructive apneas while on my side. Have an RDI of 100. They stopped my pressure during the test at 9, have since bumped it up to 10.4 but still snoring and waking up. I am using a CL2 with nasal pillows at home... not sure what they put on me during the study but it was a nasal mask. . Is it possible for me to adjust my own machine at home?

Thanks for your help.

Absolutely! (check your PMs shortly)

At this point, I wouldn't worry about the snoring.....just the AHI numbers. Most snoring is just "sound effects" anyway.
