Tired Again

Post by aksarben1010 » Thu Sep 21, 2006 12:49 pm

Ok, so I have been on this thing for 10 months now. It has been working out fairly well. I went through a few(4) masks to find one I could sleep with. I and my family saw a resurgance in engery.

But for the last month my lethargic demeanor has returned. I have been very tired and feel like I need naps I go to bed early again and I notice myself being awake at night again.

I am trying to figure out was is going on. I a fairly sure that my mask is not leaking, but I cannot tell as I have a S8 compact which gives me no feedback at all.

I think that my pressure setting was set a 9, I am wondering if my requirements have gone up and the setting needs to be more. I do not know why that would have changed, I have not gained weight, what else would cause an need for increased pressure?

Any other ideas?

Scott,

Yes, it is entirely possible that your pressure needs have changed. What type of machine do you have?

If you SLIGHTLY increase your pressure, you should be able to tell if this is the problem. Don't suddenly raise it to 20! Just bump it up one or two cm.

Research has shown that patients can successfully titrate their own pressure like this:
Can Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Titrate Their Own Continuous Positive Airway Pressure? Published: American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine Vol 167. pp. 716-722, (2003) .

Scott,

There may not not necessarily have been any changes....they may have just gotten your setting wrong to begin with......it happens. The extra air was good for awhile, but it isn't quite doing the job. As Moogy said, try upping your pressure 1 cm at a time for a week and see if it helps. Another thing you could do is ask your doctor for a prescription to do an overnight pulse oximetry test.....it's free. You take the Rx to the DME and they give you a recording pulse-ox device. You clip it to your finger overnight and take it back to the DME. They download it and print out the report and send it to your doctor. While you're there, ask them to print out an extra copy for YOU. You'll be able to see if you're blood oxygen is desaturating (dropping below 88%) and for how long.

It would also be helpful if you would fill out your profile so we know what you're using.

Best wishes,

Den

Can you adjust the pressure on the escape that I have? I didn't think so.

I am having the same problem. I have been on CPAP for a little more than a month and I am having the same problems between 2pm and 4pm. I must admit that I sleep very well at night!

Open for suggestions,

Melissa,

You can certainly adjust your machine. I know that I saw someone had posted instructions for Resmed machines here a while back.

Sorry I can't help since I am a RemStar user.

Things to be careful of are, as someone mentioned, don't move it too much at a time. And go for a while on that before another move.

AND, one never knows if the DME will be able to tell from your data card. I don't know if pressure setting shows on your data. You could always claim if they notice that that is what they gave you.

I just hesitated to move stuff during my compliance period. It is over now so I can do what I want.

Do a search and hopefully you will come up with instructions. Or maybe someone will be nice and PM you or repost, or post a link.

Well, last night I raised the pressure on my machine 1cm. I will leave it here for a least a week and see how it goes.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

melissa, you can access the clinician menu by holding down the right button abd the down button at the same time and then you can get in to change the pressure settings. pat
