child always has stuffy nose

My 4 year had his tonsils and adnoids out in March this year after a sleep study discovered he had severe OSA. It seemed to come on suddenly out of the blue and there were times where we took him up to hospital because every breath was a struggle through his nose and mouth. Anyway, my question is can it come back after you have had the op? Every now and then he lapses back into this, for a while he will sleep like a baby then go back to his old ways although not nearly as bad but still bad enough for me to worry. Im so scared his tonsils and adnoids are gonna grow back or something. Anyone had this experience with kids? Its so frustrating because there is nothing you can do and they just get so upset because they cant sleep. Im going to go back to the dr soon and maybe get some nasal spray again which may help as he was prescribed this before his op and it did help for a while but then it didnt have any effect towards the end. After the op we were told he had HUGE tonsils and adnoids but its so weird because he didnt have any problems for the first 3 years of his life.

I'm not an expert on sleep apnea at all. It could be that his tonsils and adenoids were not the reason your child has sleep apnea. At least you've ruled out that reason (by having them removed). I don't know if sleep apnea just starts up out of the blue or if it is a gradually worsening condition. I wonder if maybe you should have another sleep study done to see just how the removal of the tonsils and adenoids have affected his apnea. The nasal spray probably just cleared up his sinuses, not really "fixing" the apnea.
