CPAP Cruise
Marie, I think that just makes two of us.Marie wrote:I'm with the "does it have to be a cruise?" people.
I saw a program on A and E about cruises. That nixed the idea forever for me. Call me
Chicken Marie
I'm not 'chicken', but hubby can't go, and if I'm going to spend that kind of money, I'd spend it on the two of us going where & how we want, etc.
Is anyone interested in any alternatives to a Cruise?
Understandible if not; most who've taken one will take another.
Since the Subject of this thread is "Cruise", I'll wait for another thread if there is one.
Have a terrific time, everyone who goes!!! .

Congratulations on the upcoming 50! I am celebrating the a 5-0 next year, too, only it's not my wedding anniversary (ahem). Seriously, I feel blessed to have made it this far. Hoping to be around another 50.
About the issue of to cruise or not to cruise, I think it's really important if those who are considering this trip really get in touch with R&R and let him know your thoughts on it. His survey is short, to the point, and will give him the info he needs so that the majority of the interested parties are going to be happy. Keep in mind, you can't please everyone all of the time, but at least your voice will be heard as to what pleases you and considered in the final proposed trip, cruise or resort.

When you think about it, isn't a cruise ship basically a floating resort? I guess some have issues with seasickness or phobia of water or even a little worried about drinking water on board ship. I've never been on a cruise myself, but everyone says it's a blast. I personally could go either way with it. It's just the getting away from home / work etc for a while that is appealing to me not to mention the opportunity to meet some of my fellow cpapers. Maybe we should just call ourselves papists. Oh, I think that one is taken already.

I do not generally get motion sick, but in my experience:
The cruise ships are so large that there is very little movement to cause any motion sickness. Most people on a cruise do not feel motion sick, even if they tend to feel sick on a smaller vessel.
The water on board the cruise ships is, in my understanding, taken on at the point of origin and is therefore as good or better than any municipal water system. It really is quite acceptable and, at least on the 3 cruises I have taken, tasted quite good and was excellent for showering, etc. Living in the Great Lakes state, near the shoreline, my experience with the municipal fresh water there (drawn from a large lake and treated for human consumption) is comparable with that of the ship. I think there was also bottled water available.
The ships are really almost floating cities, and passengers are cared for quite well. The ships, IMHO, were cleaned and polished and generally quite well maintained. Any problems passengers reported to the staff are usually cared for ASAP.

I have a genetic defect that causes my immune system to be compromised. I have have Crohn's, RH and Diabetes because of this. I also catch almost anything I come into contact with. I have been on over 18 cruises, and I have never had a problem. I wish eveywhere else I go was as spotless and kept up as well as a cruise ship.
As far as motion sickness, if it worries anyone, you can ask your doctor for a patch called Transderm Scop that will flat shut the possiblity down. There are other things on the market as well. Generally, if you can fly without getting sick, you can sail on a cruise ship as well.
I can honestly say that I have never cruised with anyone that said they would never cruise again, rather it is the opposite, they can't wait to do it again.

The redeeming factor of cruise over flying would be lack of an x-hour earache! I have absolutely no problems with my ears until I'm on an airplane and the cabin pressure changes. OOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEE!!! Not a happy flyer. Tried most everything. they even 'pop' here in PA - only way I know I'm traveling over a mountain - or hillrock and roll wrote:...... I had to travel quite a bit prior taking early retirement, and that was the last flight!
Anyone remember the collision in San Diego? Unfortunately I lived there when it happened. Didn't help me any.
The choo-choo is my favorite method of transportation - outside of an oval track and good car, that is  .

His survey is so short, it's nonexistent, Lori. Guess I'll need to ask again, HA HA. Sorry, couldn't resist that one.

I have a copy of the survey, as does Earl. Like we wrote, you have to PM or email one of us and we'll send it to you. I have your email address, so I'm not going to wait for you to ask for it. I'm just sending it, woman! You are one silly goose sometimes, aren't you???Offerocker wrote:LORI WROTE:

heheh, mike just wants everyone to see me flouncing about with pantyhose straps waving in the breeze.
Sure, y'all come here anytime! Can always use extra hands wielding poop-scoops. And don't claim you're allergic to dogs just to stay out on the party boat!
Seriously, I think Earl (RnR) will put together a fabulous trip...cruise/resort/wherever. Can't imagine anyone who would handle all the details more efficiently or take better care of hoseheads in his charge.
As I told him in an email, there's nothing I'd love more than to be part of the group during the first gathering; but can't, having already made my one and only 2007 vacation plans and reservations. I do intend to be on some future trip he organizes. Would be great fun!!
