I too remember 25 cent gas, 10 cent cokes in a bottle with real sugar, and rock concerts for under $10

Anybody remember having a "Milkman" that delivered milk to your door in glass bottles? and the cream was at the top of the bottle and it had to be stirred/mixed because it wasn't homogenized?
I'm starting to get depressed. LOL

Oh, Chuck......there's SO many people here that would believe you......

How about the nickel Coke machines where you put in the coin and cranked the handle.....or the pop coolers where you slid the bottle through the metal frames and then pulled it out after you put in your money....(those aren't QUITE that old).

Is there anybody else out there that went to a one-room country school?.....with an outhouse?

I remember seeing them in the towns, but growing up on a farm, we milked our own cows and had cream separators.

I remember as a kid going to visit my grandparents out in the country ... they had an out-house. ... and yes I remember the pop machines where you pulled out the 10 oz bottles ... they were up to 10 cents though by the time I ever used one.

Humidifcation

Post by GoofyUT » Fri Sep 15, 2006 10:17 pm

Hey Den, I have my humidifier cranked down to 1. Do you find that its humidifies adequately in the winter with just pass-over in our dry climate here in the inter-mountain West?

I miss the smell of clean sheets as well. Gonna try placing a peice of my favorite dryer sheet next to the filter tonight to cure the new-found nostagia.

I know nothing of cheap gas or sodas but,
I miss the local arcade. (<---child of the '80's)
I miss Sid and Marty Croft shows.
I miss trusting my neighbors.
What I miss the most is not knowing the rest of the world hates me...

Ack! What a downer I am...

Yeah, pretty much. There's been a few times when a little extra "moisture" would have been nice.....but to do that, I'd have to plug in my HH and for me it's much nicer to breathe the cool air.....so, I just tough it out.
Some nights it's been REAL cool.

I think I had my HH plugged in for a day or two when I first started my therapy, but immediately found out what "rainout" was and found I didn't like the heat coming up the hose.....so I just unplugged the HH and that's the way it's been ever since. My HH tank drops about 3/4 of an inch in about 4 nights and then I top it off again. So, I AM getting some humidity from the passover mode.

I can remember when gas was regularly 25 cents a gallon but "gas wars" would bring it down to 15 cents at a local Fina station. I remember my parents had a charge account at the nearest Gulf station and when you pulled in they knew who you were and about three guys came out to service the car -- washing windows all the way around, checking oil and tire pressure in addition to pumping the gas. I remember going downtown to the movie on a Saturday afternoon with 50 cents and that being enough for the ticket, popcorn, large coke and a big dill pickle with a nickle left over!! I remember a record store that let kids as young as 10 buy albums and put them on lay-away, paying a quarter a week until that $3.95 was paid off and we could take it home. And it was safe to take 10 year old girls downtown and let them out to spend the day at the movies, window shopping, going to the record store. WOW. Do that today and you'd probably be arrested.

And I'm only 57 years old now.

You young whippersnapper, Mac Donald burgers, used to be $.15, Saturday pictures were a dime, 3 or more Cowboy Pic, Gas was $.16.9, and for every dollars worth, you got a choice of a dish, cup, or saucer. I used so much gas, I got two place settings a week. Cokes were a nickel, and you got to fish for them in a tub of ice water, they were so cold the top of your head popped from mouth freeze. Led Zeppelin, I saw that crash and burn.. Jim

Oh, and don't forget all the S & H Green stamps you'd get with gas, groceries and I think even the drug store. And some stores had their own stamps. We used to get green stamps on up into at least the middle 70's because I remember being at the stamp store redeeming some for a diaper hamper when I went into labor with my first daughter in 1975. I think I just about furnished that nursery with green stamps.

Yeah, Jim, I almost forgot about all the dishes and glasses they gave away to thank you for your patronage!

Not for the same thing, At my Aunt's in Southern Ill, My job was to crank the separator, get the eggs in, and slop the pigs. I got to get my milk from the pail warm, and the homemade butter was to die for. I also chopped the wood for the kitchen stove. I had been going there 13 years, before they had electric lights. The dug well water was ice cold and good. Jim
