Know what I miss??
The smell of clean sheets that have been dried on the line. Gosh I used to love that smell----kinda hard now that I'm on the hose!! Anyone else miss anything (other than a normal night's sleep)??

Kathy,
Wow, That's what's missing! I just love to get in a newly-made bed with my freshly-laundered, favorite sheets and ironed pillowcases! Felt like a princess, and would just lie there enjoying the smell and feel of it all. I knew that something wasn't quite right, and you identified it. So now I think I'll just enjoy the environment for awhile before putting on the mask - IF I don't fall asleep first! But I'd put it on pretty quickly after waking up for that first gasp for air.

What I Miss
Kathy,
Wow, I can almost smell those line dried sheets just by your mention of them! Now we count on the fake nature scents of detergents and softeners (summer breeze, spring rain, etc) - there's no comparison. I pity those who have no clue what we're talking about. If I had them on my bed now, I'd have to bury my face in the pillow and inhale deeply several times before donning my mask. Yes, I miss them too, but only because I've become too cityfied (is that a word?). You make me want to stretch a line across my postage stamp sized back yard and hang out a sheet (or maybe just the pillowcase) for old times sake. In fact, that may be just the thing to make bedtime a smidgen less dreaded.
But I really miss falling asleep watching TV. I don't like my mask well enough to wear it while awake. I wait till I'm seconds from crashing to put it on, hence I fall asleep without it sometimes. I miss dozing off naturally (without fighting to stay awake to get my mask on) in the middle of a show and waking up hours later trying to remember what show I fell asleep on. The flip side of that is I don't miss being too sleepy to even start watching a show; I don't miss waking up and wondering what truck hit me instead of what show I fell asleep on; and I don't miss my hours of sleep feeling like a waste of time. Now that I think about it, this new reality is not so bad.

Guess I just miss the idea of being able to just lay down and sleep - or being able to drop by a friend's house and decide later to spend the night - without having to plan ahead. Well, I guess those days are over - but I constantly remind myself that there are so many people out there who have much worse health issues - and that by that measurement sleep apnea ain't so bad. After all, it dosen't hurt and it's all just hot air........
I did think after I posted that city folks might not know what I was talking about!! The smell always brings back memories of clean smelling sheets on a summer night as a kid.
I too miss the spontaneity sometimes and kind of embarrased about others seeing me with the thing on. But you gotta do what you gotta do ---or take the chance of not coming out of an apnea. No brainer there. In the meantime, I'll just bury my face in the pillow before hosing up.
Goofproof ---I can't remember the last time I ironed a shirt (I'm not even sure the thing works!) But yes, I sure do remember that great smell too.
As MD727 says, things could be worse!! Thanks for the responses---it was just a spur of the moment post - I was bringing the sheets into the house this afternoon after hanging them outside and realized once again the only one who would get the pleasure of smelling them was the husband!

What I miss
I miss 25cent burgers at MacDonalds, Saturday morning matinees with my friends, gas for 49cents a gallon, sitting in the bleachers at Fenway, and Led Zeppelin.

I got a nice house and big piece of land out in the boondocks, I got a cellphone, laptop, iPod, satelite tv, and every other electronic gadget, INCLUDING a machine that puts me to sleep at night.
Are these great times, or what?
NOPE!
NOTHING is better than an egg-cream with your buds at the candy store/luncheonette and getting the latest Justice League of America, after a baseball game in the street in front of your house. Keep your damn satellite TV and micro-wave oven fer chrissakes.

Ahhh...Tooly, my friend.........That'a what I miss the most.......and hiking in to little, hidden meadows...just for a look, you know......and fishing, and hunting.......just thinking about it.........oh, never mind....I'm too stove up now anyways, even if I had a waistline again......But forget the electronic gadgetry....except for that which I really need.....I'd do without it all if I could.......but reality is that I'd probably wind up dead.
Chuck,
You must be a "youngster".....I remember when McDonald's burgers were 15 cents, and gas was less than 32 cents a gallon. Since you mentioned Led Zeppelin......yep.....you're a youngster.....
Babbie,
Clove, Black Jack and Beeman's gum is STILL available at around Halloween time......if you know where to look.
My wife works part-time at a convenience store that has access to some of that stuff.....and some of the candy you only found at movie theaters.
Weather permitting......I always have air/sunshine/closeline dried bedding.
Those were the best of times.....and the worst of times.....
Best wishes, all.

YOUNGSTER????
Well actually Den, I remember 25cent gallons of gas, 5cent cups of coffee and newspapers, 3cent postage stamps, and 10cent pay-phones. But I figured no one would believe me.
And, I MISS Led Zep the most, but I remember Rosemary Clooney, Perry Como and Frank Sinatra when he was thin.
So there!
