Excellent advice for anyone going to a local DME for a mask fitting. If a person doesn't already have a machine and is going to the DME to pick up their first machine AND choose a mask for the first time, I wouldn't leave until I'd tried masks while laying down, and with the machine going at the prescribed pressure...not just blowing a low beginning ramp pressure.UCFgrl wrote:I tried several full face masks and found that I could not get a good seal (I had my machine there to help test).

take your machine w/ you to make sure it works.
A comfortable mask that holds a good seal is THAT important. Important enough to go to some extra time and trouble if you are being given a chance to try a mask out at the DME's office. Take a pillow and blanket along in case trying it out in your usual sleeping positions does mean you've gotta get down on the floor!
Oh...and take along a leg cut off a pair of pantyhose tights. Just in case you try a mask that you really find comfortable, but it needs the little extra hold of a homemade strap across the front to stop leaks.
