pressure question

Post by quilterB » Wed Sep 13, 2006 8:20 am

I just realized I posted this on another thread. Sorry. But here goes. I have monitored my results for 3 nights now. My total AHI has been:3.8, 3.4, and last night 4.1. My Average Leak has gone from 65.0 to 62.0 to 43.0 last night. My APAP is set for a range of 7 to 20, but my 90% pressure has not been over 12.6. Should I lower the top pressure and what is the reasoning behind that. Just trying to understand and tweak this whole experience.
Thanks,
Linda

It looks like you had some leaks for two nights (62 LPM) , followed by a night with no leaks (43 LPM). However, keep in mind the Hybrid will hit
60 LPM at only 15 cm/H2O. Was your 90% pressure on the first two nights
a lot higher than the third?

I think most APAPs will preform better if they are set for a tighter range. So why
not try 8 - 15?

I also think short samples of sleep data may lead to 'over-adjusting' the
APAP settings. Therefore, I suggest at least two weeks data before making a change, followed by two weeks data to determine if a response to the change has occurred.

looks like you have the hybrid mask? You need to pull out the spec sheet and look for the mask leak rate at 13cm pressure.

If the Remstar is reporting 60L/m leak rate you need to subtract the mask's intentional leak from that value to determine actual leak.

As for your AHI indices, what is that score made up from?

AI:=?
HI:=?
-----
Total=AHI

If your AHI is under <5 that is considered normal. If your AHI is mainly from HI (hypopnea) then don't worry about it. I would however lower the Max. pressure from 20cm to 13cm.
