Hanging hose

Post by NyNurse33 » Fri Sep 08, 2006 4:23 pm

If I hang my hose using one of the many techniques listed on here, (I especially like the one with the cable cord organizer or something to that effect) are you more likely to experience "rain out" b/c of the "dip" the hanging will create?

Actually the rising hose to get over the hanging device is a good barrier to the travel of condensed water to your mask.

But wouldn't rainout actually occur more often in the mask and in the hose end nearest the mask?

I use a scrunchie (pony tail holder) and attach it around the bed post & thread my hose through it .I haven't had any problem with rainout.

Rainout is caused by the condensation of the water out of the air stream as it cools. Just like the weather outside fog and rain happen inside the hose because the relative humidity has reached 100%.

Changing the shape or height hose has no direct effect on the relative humidity in the hose, the temperature of the hose/air has to cool to produce raiinout.

1. If raising the hose puts it in a cooler area of the room, maybe against a cold outer wall this might cause rainout.
2. If the A/C or just room air temp. has a better shot at cooling the hose maybe rainout.
3. Keep the hose/air warmer than the dew point and no rainout.
