Difficulty turning On & Off Remstar Auto Cflex

Post by Offerocker » Wed Sep 06, 2006 1:40 pm

I've had great difficulty turning on and off my Remstar Auto w/C-flex!
The buttons are soft, and I don't get a definite response.
I push it softly, medium, then HARD. Nothing. Repeat until it turns on...all the while I'm with a taped mouth, mask in place, trying desperately to breath.

Anyone else w/same or similar problem?

Yes, I could just hook the hose to mask after it's on. Regardless this is very frustrating at a time when I want to sleep, and it just irritates me enough that I want to get up again.

Also , I've found at times that the machine really WASN'T turned off in the morning because when I put on the mask that night and took a breath, the machine took off, providing air!

Wanted to find out if there's something 'simple' I'm not doing prior to calling online provider.

Thank you all in advance.

This is normal for the RemStar APAP. If it is left plugged in, it will start with
another press of the switch OR 2.5 breaths into the tube...

+ Aussie heated hose.

This may not be much help, but all I have to do is put on my mask, hook up the hose that goes from the machine to the mask and then take about two or three breaths and --- the machine comes on! No buttons to push or anything. Then when morning comes (or a middle-of-the-night potty break) I just push the off button.

Perhaps this automatic-start-with-breathing function was a setup variable?

Mine is also set up so that the lights are ON when the machine is OFF. That way the little button lights don't bother me at night and I know if it is on or off.

I just start mine by breathing with the mask on, due to the holes(vents) in the FF Mask somestimes I have to cover them with my finger. When you are trying to adjust the straps and don't want it on, it comes on. You may have to hold the button down longer to allow the computer to poll the switch.

The one I got at Auction did act up the other night, it started beeping like the hose was off, and wouldn't let me turn the machine off. I pulled the power for 45 sec. and it worked fine again and still is. Fingers Crossed. Jim

Just a thought, but is it possible that your breathing starts it up and when you press the button you are actually turning it off again before it kickes in with that burst of air?

I find that 2 deep breaths start mine right up with no button pushing. I only use the button to turn it off and that doesn't make any noise and as you say is mushy but does the job first time every time.

THANKS SO MUCH, EVERYONE!

Seems that this AUTO cpap is truly AUTO !

I would have replied sooner, but, alas, good 'ol DSL isn't so 'auto' lately.

...now to bed, and take those 2-3 breaths, and I'm off...zzzzzzzz
