David, my conclusion was based on the simple fact that the volume of Spam did not increase gradually from day to day as the spam controls were implemented, but rather ratcheted up in a step function as the spam button was implemented, and up even more when Johnny indicated his intention to shut-down the spam-bots here.Snoozin' Bluezzz wrote:How do we know this? It seems unlikely to me that these are normal spammers. It seems more likely that these guys are intentionally trying to disrupt this forum. They've been unable to do it by clutter, so now there is this massive final push to annoy as many people as possible.
I'm sure there's more of it now, but I can also assure you that five years ago it became intolerable for me when I was getting over a hundred spams a day on e-mail. I tried filtering for a while, but there was just too much spam. I finally just gave up on the e-mail address I'd used for years, and swore not to give out my e-mail address unnecessarily. I don't have a problem with spam on my current e-mail account which I've had for about five years (and I don't have any spam filters on it either).Snoozin' Bluezzz wrote:I have one e-mail account that gets absolutely no spam to speak of and is not used in any circumstances I consider insecure and it just got nailed with 15 spam messages today. Up to today, after 2 years of use, it never got more than 1 or 2 a day. My work account had neglible spam until the last few months when it began to explode, again with me leaving few or no footprints so I think they are getting even more persistent and innovative.
