CPAP dot com is not allowed to ship Respironics into Canada. They are only permitted to ship to people in the US or they can get in trouble. My Respironics rep told me that.

I've been told that by US cpap vendors too. Don't get me started on cpap vendors (Mine anyway). I've been a customer for 10 years and it's been painful. Time to reward someone else. My vendor is affiliated with Credit Valley Hospital fwiw..and I"m looking!

Sense---cpap vendors I've talked to can't sell to Cdn patients. There may be some; I would like to know.

CPAP purchases in the US would save me a lot of money! I suspect that the customer service would be better too. My vendor is affiliated with a local hospital.
I know there is a government subsidy. My first purchase 10 years ago was extremely expensive even with the subsidy. My recent purchase was too.

I would cherish a vendor that understood how inconvenient and sometimes hard it is to be compliant; perhaps one that was a cpap user himself would be the best.

I truly appreciate the value of cpap; that's why I've used it for 10 years.

Dave

Dave, good luck - buy your equipment from authorized Canadian dealers as you're supposed to. They're going to start tracing serial numbers worldwide I heard. Then heads are going to turn!

Somebody's feeding you a line that doesn't truely know the answer... according to CPAP dot com's international shipping...

https://www.cpap.com/cpap-faq/International.html#125

They say that they'll ship to Canada

As far as I know, online US sellers of cpap equipment are not allowed to sell RESMED machines, masks or mask parts to Canadians or anyone else outside the US. Resmed decided this is the way it would be a couple of months ago.

It is ONLY Resmed equipment, as far as I know. RESPIRONICS machines, etc can still be ordered online for shipment to Canada from a US seller.

Other brands of machines can also be shipped to Canada.

It is only Resmed that has taken this step. That is my understanding.

A call or emails to cpap.com could clarify this.

Thanks for your responses I needed to respond quickly when my 9 year old machine needed replacing.

So it's a relatively minor concern.

I would like to replace my mask soon. I don't like it, and I'm NOT going back to my supplier.

This forum's participants are really helpful. Thanks for the thought that goes into your responses.

How can you tell when your DME is lying to you? Answer: their lips are moving.

It's a disgrace of the industry that these guys will shamelessly tell baldfaced lies to people that they have a professional duty to help. It undermines their credibility in EVERYTHING that they do.

While there are good DME's out there, they seem to be few and far between. The result is that you shouldn't trust any of them.

When it comes to spending your money on supplies of any kind or replacing a blower, ALWAYS check the online DME's first, and ALWAYS call them about availability, too. Most items are available to Canadian buyers from online companies such as CPAP.com. Resmed products are the ONLY exception that I am aware of.

Resmed seems to have given in to pressure from the Canadian DME's. IMHO, that makes them worthy of a boycott. Even if you can get a Resmed machine through insurance such as ADP, eventually you will need filters that you'll have to buy at usurous prices from a Canadian supplier and sadly, you may find that insurance won't reimburse you for them, either.
I'm workin' on it.

Hose_head, I need to focus on the solution. Because my past experience has been so bad.

(US and others may not know our process. I need to convince my G.P. That I need a sleep study. (Took 1 1/2 years). Then he tells me where to go for that. Ok. Took 2 months to get results. Then the sleep specialist tells you where to go for equipment if you qualify. I had no choices back then. (If they sell a Hummer cpap you get that. If they sell a Fiat cpap--you get the idea.)

Then they give you 3 choices. And 3 prices; the amount of the gov't subsidy, and what you pay out of pocket. They handed me boxes and kicked me out the door after a canned talk. No real knowledge. Stuff is good for 5 years they say. Including masks. My sleep specialist wouldn't authorize a new cpap until my 9th year. It was so much more quiet that my wife could finally sleep.

We don't have health care; we have health management in my opinion.

So back to the solution...I would love to have a list of names and phone numbers of good cpap suppliers in Canada, or those that will supply to Canadians. A wall of fame!

Regards,
DaveL

Been there, done that, albeit a lot more recently than you (I was diagnosed in early 2008).

I too am interested in finding a Canadian source for equipment and supplies. However, as far as I can tell, there are no Canadian DME suppliers of equipment who will sell at prices comparable to on-line sellers in the USA.

Despite what some on this board (and in this thread) will advise you (note that they don't post their names), CPAP.com will sell and ship you anything you need with the exception of RESMED products. If in doubt, call them and find out. CPAP.com is reputable.

Reportedly, there are other on-line suppliers who will ship to Canada. I've not dealt with them, but others in this thread and on this board have reported on them.

Now insurance is another issue. If you plan to use ADP for your purchase, then my understanding is that you must buy locally. If you have other insurance, you need to ask them about their policies. I have such insurance and they will reimburse for US on-line purchases, including exchange rates, but will not pay for shipping costs.

We bought CPAP machine ResMed and CPAP mask at FPM Solutions - located at Trillium Health Centre in Etobicoke near QEW and 427. the adress is 190 Sherway dr. Their website is cpapmachinescanada com. they have every machine and mask in stock and much cheaper than anybody esle. My husband is very happy with the service and the follow up. We strongly recommend them.

Did you check the online suppliers to compare prices? The prices on the cpapmachinescanada.com web site are significantly higher than those of online suppliers.

I'm delighted to say that I've found a wonderful CPAP supplier--Shoppers. The lady who provides their service is excellent. Her card is available at any Shoppers Home Care in the Toronto area. It was a very helpful poster that recommended this firm; I'm so glad that I"ve participated in this forum.
I bought a new mask, and it has served me well--for almost 6 months.
I regret to say that I purchased my replacement CPAP machine from my original DME. I found their service to be terrible; their prices high. I wish that I had shopped sooner.
So if you're unhappy, look around.
I truly appreciate the sponsor of this forum.
You've all been so helpful.
