I tried lol

Post by SpookyFodder » Sun Sep 03, 2006 4:24 am

I must of hit the forums around the same time the spammers were at work because I'd kill a spam posting and see 5 more lol. I am having a sleepless night and I must say that spam fighting is good therapy to make one tired and sleepy. I got about 10 or 15 of them. I give up. Going back to bed. Goodnight.

spam

Post by tomjax » Sun Sep 03, 2006 6:12 am

This is what I am talking about.
The obsession with zapping spam does not let others know the magnitude of the problem.

Nor does it let us know how effective the new controls are.

Guess it is important to some to be the ONE who zaps the buggers.

I hope Johnny gives regular updates.

Wow. I'm kind of curious why the delete spam button has not been removed if it causes that much trouble. It doesn't have anything to do with obsession. It has to do with being awake viewing the boards and seeing spam and the delete spam button. I guess it makes some feel important to rip on somebody for wanting to do something nice for the board. Had I known it would cause a rip in the space time continuum I would not have done it. Sorry.

Nice work, SpookyFodder. I came here this morning expecting to start zapping, just like yesterday, but was pleasantly surprised to find no spam at all here this morning.

Hopefully, in a few days, after Johnny implements the additional controls he plans, the spam problem will become a distant memory. In the meantime, rest assured that some of us do appreciate your efforts.

Regards,
Bill

I don't even have a delete button for SPAM anymore. Has it been taken away? I used to zap 'em, but now I don't see where the button is.....

I still have my Delete SPAM button. I'd guess that your privileges were removed, perhaps as a result of deleting a post that the admins didn't consider SPAM.

Bill

Ahhhh... I get it. The real spammers can't be controlled, so it was determined to control me, instead!
Nice, very nice.

Vader: I'd guess that it's a temporary thing - one day recently, my display of topics took more room than my screen would allow - had to scroll all the way to the right, and even then the 'delete spam' button didn't show. Is OK now...I'd chalk it up to some type of temp glitch - from either end, who knows? I hadn't make any changes...keep at it, OK?

Actually, I looked into the matter, and it appears that NightHawkeye is right. Apparently they took away my spam zapping privileges, for possibly accidently removing something they didn't think was spam
There's only a ton of spam here on a daily basis, so I would think a mistake could be possible.
Oh well, I guess the SPAMMERS have more privileges than me now. But who knows?... I could learn to like spam

Well said.
I too lost my spam buster priveleges.
Mine too was deleted for reasons unknown to me. If the Admin doesn't want my help to the forum that's just fine with me. In the grand scheme of things, spam is a very minor inconvenience for me. I view it like junk mail I get daily with my USPS delivery. Ignore it and toss it.

In response to the criticism of those of us who delete spam, my reasoning behind deleting it is that if we don't, the index page will be totally cluttered with old posts and pages that don't exist on old posts. Then newcomers, who might REALLY need some help, could become so turned off to the forum because of all the mess that they won't come here anymore. This is a great forum, and I would hate for someone to decide not to take advantage of the wonderful, helpful information available here because they got so frustrated trying to dig through the clutter.

Therefore, when I have the time, I make good use of my DELETE SPAM privileges. Johnny said he's working on the problem and I have faith the problem will be fixed this week like he said. Until then, I will continue to DELETE SPAM.

Delete spam

Post by GoofyUT » Sun Sep 03, 2006 4:39 pm

I still have my "delete spam" option too. I must say that I rather enjoy zapping the fokkers. But, it DOES get tiring sometimes.

Cheers!

Great point, Linda. I hadn't thought of it that way. I've just been deleting spam because it's a great way to procrastinate.

This free forum has helped me so much with my therapy.
I am sure that without it I would have been struggling or perhaps even given up on cpap.
Basically I feel that I owe the people who have made this site possible so if they ask me to zap spam I will gladly do it!
