AutoPAP or CFlex?

Post by SuckingWind » Sat Feb 12, 2005 1:33 pm

Does anyone know which of these is better? Or is their any real difference? I am thinking that something that adjusts may work better for me. Any advice?

I have the 420E with the new H20 Htd Humdifier, with Swift nasal pillows. Seems ok to me. I have it set to APAP, didn't want to blow out what little brains I l have left. The ramp on straight CPAP blew out my sinuses when it got ot my titration #12.5. Also, the study had no htd humidification, A BIG NECESSARY, ALWAYS.

Lovin' the not H20, compact, less cumbersome and both machines QUIET.

I've been hosing for 2 wks, feel less tired, slightly more energy, even my daily glucose numbers are DOWN, so maybe once some O2 got to some needed places my metabolism is waking up, like a bear after hibernation!
I HOPE.

LIAM---glad glad to see you back on the board, hanging in there, are you? Hope so.............

SW, just changed to an auto w/c-flex last night and the c-flex is AWESOME! The sensation is very much like normal breathing without the back pressure. Should clarify also that c-flex and autopap are two seperate functions in case you were'nt clear on that. I would not go without c-flex regardless of the machine being cpap or auto. The autopap just makes good sense to me. Knowing that the machine can adjust to changing circumstances makes me feel I have a made a better investment.

Sucking Wind, autopap and c-flex are different things and you can have them together or separately.

Autopap means the pressure varies as you need it during the night, but at any given time the pressure is the same for breathing in and out, whereas cflex is a feature on the Remstar machines which reduces the pressure when you breathe out.

So you can get an autopap from several manufacturers, and if it thinks you need 8cm of pressure at a particular moment, you will be breathing out against the same pressure.

Or you can get the Remstar autopap which also has the c-flex capability. When that thinks you need 8cm of pressure, it gives you 8cm as you breathe in and reduces the pressure a little as you breathe out.

Hope that makes sense, there are far more eloquent descriptions of both types elsewhere in the forum

The vast majority of opinion in this forum is in favour of autopap. Those with Remstar machines with cflex seem by and large to find it more comfortable. I have the Remstar auto with cflex and get on really well with it.
