Tips on humidifier

Post by specialk » Thu Aug 31, 2006 9:28 am

Hi everybody. Am new to all this.Have completed a profile and I am finding the forums very interesting and helpful.Dont have any particular problems at the moment except a little too much moisture in the mask. I'm trying to find a happy medium with the humidifier setting.Any tips?

1) Try a hose cover. One of the forum members makes them. I think her name is Offenhouser, or something like that.

If that doesn't work,

2) Heated hose from sleepzone dot com.

+ Aussie heated hose.

You can also try lowering the water level in the humidifier. I usually only put 1/4 to 1/2 inch max water in. That helped a lot for me.
You could also try an ice-cube in the water. Some people have reported that that has helped them.
If you are using a heated humidifier with the heat on, try it without the heat and see how you do. That often helps dramatically.

Thanks. Just picked that tip up on one of the other postings. Will try lowering the water level first.

So I gather people run into problems with their hoses in the winter? Sometimes I think there is too much info out there for me to absorb.

Cooler room temperatures plus your heated humidifier can cause "rainout" basically condensation in the hose.
It ranges from gurgling in the hose to a face full of water in the more extreme cases.
A hose cover is a simple cheap precaution against rainout, it also reduces the "medical look" of your equipment.
For more persistent cases of rainout there is a heated hose that can be bought.
