So what happens when you have a cold and your nasal passages are plugged up? Do u forego the machine during those times...I hope not!!!! But I can't imagine how that would work.

Full Face masks are made just for that situation.

Cold

I use a Ultra Mirage Full face mask when I cannot breathe out of my nose.
I have to say I have only had one cold in 2 1/2 years. I think they are less frequent for most people on CPAP.

Your questions are welcome, we have been where you are and if we haven't yet, your questions will help those who want to know the same thing.

Welcome.

Yep ... nasal congestion is no fun for xPAPers. As mentioned above, full face mask is generally the solution although there is one called a Hybrid that you may want to research before making a final decision. As a nurse you probably have a few solutions yourself for unplugging stuffy sinuses.

Anyway, welcome to the family ...

UltraMirage Full Face mask and a saline rhino rinse works the best for me.

The rhino rinse washes out all the allergens that cause the nasal congestion to begin with. Come to think of it, I haven't had a cold in years since I started doing that saline rinse.

In my experience, I can continue to use my Aura/Everest even with a cold or sinus infection. Most important for me is to rinse out my sinuses with saline solution before bed. Also, as a side benefit of the nasal pillow masks, the air pressure going right into the nasal passages tends to help keep things open.
