Resmed Auto Vs Remstar Auto?

Post by Mikesus » Wed Feb 09, 2005 8:50 pm

Hello all! New here but after reading a while I am wondering if I need to change my order...

Did a lot of research and decided on Resmed Auto. Seems the general consensus here is that the Remstar auto is the way to go... Did I make a mistake?

Help?

(and yes I have a script, and had a sleep study, just have really lousy DME options so "Trying out" CPAP's is not really an option... )

Appreciate all the replies! (might want to respond in the post for others to see tho...)

I think I was having that pang of buyers remorse (gee the grass is ALWAYS greener ) But I will stick with the Resmed.

My requirements were Heated Humidifier (not optional as I have Asthma)
APAP (don't need more air then necessary cuz that *MIGHT* irritate airway more causing more asthma problems)
QUIET! (The better half JUST got used to the Hepa on its LOWEST setting)

After reading about some issues with the cflex and shallow breathing, I don't think I will miss that feature. (yeah I know I could turn it off, but sometimes with the asthma shallow is as good as it gets )

To get the Remstar it would be bout $200 more, and the deal from cpap.com on the Resmed Auto INCLUDED the software. (ok I know I paid for it in the price, but included always sounds better )

I really think the c-flex is best for you. Spirit is a bit dated. A-10 algorithem is old. Id wait for the S-8 but it also uses the A-10. Just a smaller box.

Or go with PB420E if funds are an issue.

Call cpap.com first thing and change your order. Im sure you arent the first to change you mind. Anyone else have a thought on this

Ack. tried to call but they were done for the night. I emailed em, and will call in the AM... I will prolly go with the Remstar Auto with Cflex, with the rationale that I can always turn it off, but if I don't have it I can't try it...

Did I mention I *HATE* dme's ?

"Yes sir you can have whatever model you like as long as it's made by Fisher Paykel" - Felt like I was buying a Model T. Any color as long as its black...

DME's

Not all DME's are evil. I can assure you of that. Ok, I know I'm a little tainted because I work for one. There are good ones out there. Get rid of those big guys like Apria, Lincare and Healthcare Solutions. The little guys give better service. They are out there but because of all the palm greasing the big guys do with the docs and sleep labs it is hard for the little guys to compete.

Have faith in the dme's my friends!!!

I am sure that what you say is true, as it is with anyone in the health profession. But their are only 3 players in this area according to Anthem that work with them (I use that term loosely) and they way they act they know they are the only game in town. Lincare was the one that I had problems with.

Just found out that my remstar is backordered Hopefully Cpap.com will get em back in stock soon...

Melissa,

We know that all DMEs are not evil. You will find stories here of many people that have been treated poorly though. I bet even though your DME serves it's patients well, your prices are high. How do they compare to the prices at cpap.com? I'd love to know, just as a comparison, can you pick out an item and post your price?

If you guys are doing a good job, be glad that we all come down hard on the competition.

Thanks for posting...always good to see the DMEs represented.
Sincerely,
wading thru the muck of the sleep study/DME/Insurance money pit!

Actually, they are. Some are just better than hiding it, that's all.

It's the little things they can do to cover up. Getting a toupee. Training themselves NOT to hold their hand with their pinky to the corner of their mouths. Not running around with a miniature version of themselves. That sort of thing.

Seriously, I quite agree, as I've said before, with the exception of the pricing thing, which is apparently pretty much standard across the board, my DME has been exceedingly helpful in trying to get me into a mask that works for me. It hasn't so much HELPED, as I suppose I've made more than obvious, but it wasn't for lack of trying on her part.

Oh, and I've heard HORRIBLE things about LinCare. Not personal experience, but the general impression I'm getting is that they should be called LinDontCare.

Liam, living proof that just because you're evil DOESN'T mean you're a DME. Mwahahahahahahahaha.

Happy with my Resmed Autoset Spirit

Post by Keenethj » Thu Feb 10, 2005 2:45 pm

I rented the Remstar Auto but bought the Resmed Auto a year and half ago because I am a PC person and liked the Resmed software (compliance data only on Remstar). At the time I had double insurance coverage that paid for everything (those days are now over). Both worked great with their respective heated humidifiers (makes a big diff in winter). I have travelled worldwide with my Resmed Auto (just took it home to Australia for a visit), and the voltage conversion/altitude adjustment has been totally transparent. It is a little large to travel with but generally fits in most airline overheads.

Not sure what you mean by compliance data only? I thought with the Encore software it is equivelent to the Resmed software?

Mike,

The REMstar has data up the wazoo! All you'll ever need...even pulse oximetry if you buy the correct accesories.

The REMstar machines have it also using their sleeplink modem and their oxymeter. The Resmed unit is called reslink.

Missing smarts

My ResMed has nothing like this. It is called "the AutoRespond".
Appears to be brain dead even though from the outside it looks
just like a Spirit.
