New shell available for Hybrid users from manufacturer

wolftracker--

does the new shell have that vent hole in the elbow with the thin plastic piece over it, or do they not give you a new elbow? i was trying to figure out what was going on, and it seemed to me that that hole, with the, excuse me, flimsy piece of plastic half over it that supposedly closes when the machine is on, might be a big source of leaks. i guess it's okay, but i was wondering.

wonder what the difference in the angle does.

the guy i spoke to said they knew some people needed more pressure with this mask.

i will eagerly await your report.

Is this new shell made smaller for thinner faces?
What signals would I look for to detect that the new shell would work better for me than the original shell?

i dunno. i just called them with my problems (high leaks and low pressure) and they suggested fixes. i asked about a couple of fixes i'd read about on this board, and they did not think those would be good for me, so maybe you call and ask?

I've had the new shell about a month. It seems to have a different curvature, and definitely has a lower vent rate. Otherwise all is the same, including the tube. I use an Activa swivel tube with it. The new shield pretty well solved the leak problem I was having, but I'm still not getting the lower AHI and pressure some are reporting. The mask has such potential though, that I'm trying more adjustments with it more than I ordinarily would a mask. But I got an AHI of 0.3 with the CF2 last night, and that's hard to walk away from. I'm typically seeing AHI=2 with the Hybrid.

With the Hybrid, my AI and HI averages are less than 0.5. Just out of curiosity, I used the F&P HC431 for the past 2 nights and my AI and HI readings were roughly the same.

But I feel a lot more refreshed when using the Hybrid than the F&P HC431. So, I'm beginning to wonder that there are other parameters that also matter besides AI and HI.

Perhaps it is the high CO2 washout of the Hybrid compared to other masks that cumulatively provides more O2 for each breath taken during the night?

how did you get the hybrid elbow off and install the activa elbow on the hybrid shell? i was thinking of doing a similar thing, but I couldn't figure out how the hybrid and activa elbows detach and attach.

The Respironics Comfort Curve certainly could use a better headgear:

> the side pieces are not stiff enough to keep the plastic side pieces from rotating (alternatively, the side pieces need to go much further back). Combined with inadequacy of the detent of angle the mask changes vertical position - and the nose interface seal can get in a position where it at least partially blocks the nostrils (perhaps needs an XL seal size).

Combined with cheek redness from the pads (whether gel or the foam pads that came in the package but are not in the parts info), this mask is yet another unfinished design - innovative ideas, some of which should be used with regular headgear (this mask is designed for, and compromised by, an eyes-clear desire).

For your own benefit, you might want to post this on a Comfort Curve thread or start your own. From your description of gel, I take it that you're not talking about the Hybrid?

(i don't care where you post, but you're likely to get more feedback if you post on a thread where others with the same mask likely will be reading.)

You don't remove the elbow. The piece you add is a straight piece with normal connector on one end and a swivel on the other. It's this piece:

She said that there is no new shell available and that it seems to be misinformation on the CPAP forum.

the holes on the new shell are smaller--they're umff size.

thanks, cswansfor, for clarifying the bit about the activa part. i still may replace the elbow if the new headgear and shell don't work--if that's possible. another alternative would just be to tape that hole shut. this is just my thinking--nothing from the manufacturer--that plastic flap looks like it will not last long.

however, as i write this, i just got a phone call from someone at innomed who swears that elbow port is secure and that it will last for a long time. its purpose, he said, is to protect you in the event of a power outage, and was required by the FDA. why umff isn't required to do a similar thing, i don't know.
