Good night, bad night, good night, ...

Post by linda b » Fri Aug 25, 2006 4:12 pm

I've been happily using the CL2 with the simple cushion for the past three months. For the last week or so I've noticed that one night I'll have no mask problems, sleep great, get good numbers. The next night the mask will drive me crazy, suddenly feeling too small, air leaking in my eyes. Sometimes it makes my face feel hot towards morning. The bed is the same, the room temperature is the same, the same pillow, the same room darkness, etc. I think I'm tightening straps as close to the same each night as is possible.

Any ideas out there to help me settle things down? Does anyone have a solution to the face feeling hot as the night wears on (and no, it's not hot flashes -- I'm long past that, thank goodness!!)

I've been at this for three months also, using two different masks, and I experience the same thing. One or two nights of great success and then a couple of nights when nothing seems to work. I've decided that it's just the way things are and there isn't much I can do about it except survive the bad nights as well as I can.

I don't use your mask but I think they all have their own issues. My ComfortFull 2 generally leaks more than my ComfortCurve, but the CC can also be maddening at times, especially if I don't get it back together exactly right after cleaning.

I have learned to just reach over and turn off the heat on the humidifier during the night if I wake up with that hot feeling that you describe. I think that just taking action is enough to make me feel better because I usually go back to sleep fairly quickly after doing it.

I've decided that I need to start being no more irritated (or obsessed) with xpap than I am with all the other daily things I do like brushing my teeth and taking a shower. It's just something to be done as well as possible and that's about all you can do.

After several months, I still have some good nights and some bad. Some nights when I THINK my mask is leaking like crazy, and I fool with it for a long time before going to sleep--then I have the best sleep and the lowest AHI ever! Sometimes I use an extra pantyhose strap, and other times it doesn't seem to help.

One thing that makes a bit of difference is whether I wash my face, with what soap, and whether I washed or wiped the mask. I am still finding what works best. I had a LOT of trouble at a hotel last week--didn't take my own face soap and the hotel soap had lotion.

Constantly seeking perfection...
