Technical Issue-Help Needed
Since I can no longer post replies via AOL, and no one here or at AOL can answer why that is (and please spare me the replies asking me why I still use AOL), I decided to change my email address on this site to my gmail account so I won't have to open another browser when I get email links to threads I'm watching. When I went to do that on my Profile page, I was unable to. It kept telling me my password didn't match the account. I wasn't trying to change a password, just the registered email address.
Does anyone know if there is a way to change your email address to receive email notifications of replies to threads you're watching here from that which you initially registered it as? I'm stumped. Thought I was computer savvy to some degree. Guess not.
Thanks.

It automatically is listed in the space for the email address when I go to the Profile page. When I try to change it, I get an error message, after I hit Submit, that says. "The current password you supplied does not match that stored in the database."oldgearhead wrote:I think you must type in your current password everytime you make any changes to your profile.

Lori,
I have a recollection of somebody trying to changes their user name/ email address/ or other particular and it seems that the password can be revised but the user name and email are linked forever. Or something like that. Do you remember the last name calling match I think associated with Encore software for free? Did you look at FAQ and search username?

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I did check the FAQs this morning. My only reason for doing this is because I can't reply to the posts via AOL anymore. Don't know why, but I can't. So now I'm opening my mail in AOL, copying the link and then pasting it in either IE or Firefox. Then I can reply. It's a bit of a pain, having to go through all the extra steps, but if that's what it will take, so be it. I was hoping to change my email linked with this account to my gmail address so I could just click, read and reply.
I guess if I re-registered under another new name, I could change the email address. I was hoping one of the moderators/administrators of the site would have stepped in and offered some advice/feedback on this topic, but none so far.
I appreciate your reply. Thank you.

my guess: old cookies in your browser. When you log on it uses a cookie stored on your computer to keep you logged on to cpaptalk.com.
If you change your password it can get confused with the new password stored in its database and the one contained in the cookie stored on your computer. If you change your password you should close your browswer and delete cookies before logging back on to cpaptalk.com.
In fact, I have to log-on TWICE when I log on. First time I log on it does NOTHING. When I do it again it finally takes hold, I suspect that is because it wants to write a cookie on my PC. I use the latest Mozilla browser and I have it set to delete all cookies and cache when I close the browser, oh well prefer it to work that way.
Cookies for Mozilla is stored in the same folder as IE in the C:\Document and Settings\yourname\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder.
Sometimes when you delete all your cookies via IE or Mozilla menus (when it closes) it doesn't fully delete all files, so every once in a while you should navigate there using file Explorer and delete them manually (you have to set Options to view hidden files). I just navigate there, select File/Edit/Select All/Delete, it also deletes all caches images from websites you have visited.

Snoredog,
Thanks, but nope. I am on top of this computer like white on rice. I recently also got done working with http://www.aumha.net to clean out this computer to see if that was the problem with AOL and posting replies, so I know that everything is clean and running well.
I will give it another shot and just clean out everything again, but perhaps it's like Terry said about your email address being linked to your user name forever. If that's the case, that's not too wise because sometimes people change their email addresses/carriers and that would virtually render your screen name here useless forever as far as receiving replies.
I am going to go clean it all out again and try to change my address once again. I appreciate your interest.

Here is a little program I use. Works fine, takes care of the security aspect, and it is free.

Okay. IE Privacy Keeper was very similar to a program I use called ATF Cleaner, which didn't help - AND neither did this.
I have come to the conclusion that Terry must be right and you are stuck with the email address you gave when you signed up/registered on the site. So if you want to change your email address, I guess you have to choose a new user name. So I will be stuck doing the same thing I've been doing to post, which is opening the link through my AOL account and then pasting the link to the thread into either IE or Firefox. Oh, well.
Too bad the moderators/administrators haven't said anything on this thread. Would have appreciated some feedback from them.

Have you tried to PM them ... I think one of them currently has a thread going for HIPPA something or other.Sleepless on LI wrote:Too bad the moderators/administrators haven't said anything on this thread. Would have appreciated some feedback from them.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
