First of all, again many thanks to the great people of this forum for helping me learn so much in such a short 2 weeks. Yes, I still have much more to learn but I now know where to find my most valuable source of xPAP information.
Thought I would share my first night experience with ResMed S8 Vantage APAP.
I went back to my Swift mask in order to establish a baseline since the S8 Vantage only calibrates with ResMed interfaces (yes I know evil money grubbing ResMed corp). Anyway, my first night numbers below:
Usage: 7 hours … I woke up an hour earlier than the 8 hours sleep I had scheduled for myself and I guess I was too rested to go back to sleep for that last hour.
Pressure = 12.2cm w/ min set to 8 cm and max set to 13 cm
AHI = 3.9
AI = 0.1
HI = 3.8
Leak = 0.16
I guess this is not bad considering I was diagnosed with AHI of 102 (with mostly apneas) and titrated to 10.0 cm on my first split-night sleep study (Jul 15, 2006).
I intend to continue using the Swift mask in order to establish a good reference baseline before going back to the Hybrid mask. Any suggestions on length of period I should use for such a baseline? … 1 week? … 2 weeks? … 1 month?
Thanks,
- roberto

Dream......,
I think at least one month of data is nessary. i have 6 weeks of CL2 data,
followed by 5 weeks of Hybrid data. With the Hybrid my AHI's are a bit lower at 1.8, and my snore index is a bit higher. However, a very curious thing: Leak (42 LPH) is the same for both masks?
I have tried to go back to the CL2 a few nights, but I can't seem to use it
anymore, because I feel like I can't get enough air through it. I may try to use the CL2 with a higher minium pressure setting on the APAP.

Thanks for the suggestion oldgearhead ... I'll try and continue the baseline thru end of next month.
I did not realize the RemStar could provide a snore index ... I wonder if the ResMed Vantage has that capability?
Also did not realize the the small CL2 had the same leak rate as the Hybrid. I was thinking of trying the CL2 out myself later this fall.
Thanks again,
- roberto

Congrats!!
GREAT numbers, Roberto!!
Great treatment!
Congratulations!!!!!!!

P.S. Though its moot now, I'm picking up my card reader today and will be posting my comparative impressions of ResMed S8 Vantage -v- Remstar Auto w/C-flex this evening. Sorry I couldn't help you before your appointment with your sleep doc, but I'm so happy that it worked out so well for you!

Congratulations Roberto.
Hope you can tweak things really well now and start to reap as many benefits with this cpap therapy as possible.
I don't have the ResMed software or machine so unfamiliar with downloading of the data with that, but whenever I switch to different masks on Encore Pro (Remstar software) I like to save it under for i.e. (08/23/06 start.hybrid,,,,,etc) that way when I am trying to compare numbers over the months if I see really good values I like to know what mask I was using at the time. I only have 4 but still I like to be able to tell the difference.
Hope you get to post with more good results soon.

Your posts have been a great help to me. Yes ... this stuff is a lot like the kind of work I do. I develop and use computer models and "tweaking" is a major part of it. Calibrating and optimizing an xPAP to OSA symptoms is very much the same process. Rquires collecting and organizing data so that it can be analyzed to make changes to input (masks and pressure adjustments) in order to get the desired output (low AHIs and a good night's sleep).
Thanks again and everyone on this forum has made a big difference in my life.

Roberto,
Some "newer' members like yourself amaze me, because you seem to pick up this whole new way of sleeping much quicker than I did. It took me at least 4 months to be able to sleep fully during the night without removing my mask (unknowingly). I was mouth breathing that whole time but never put two and two together until I read the post about mouth taping one day.
Geesh, at 3 weeks you have already come so far! In another few months new people will be directing questions towards you like a Veteran!
Glad to hear you like your new machine.
