camping with cpap

Post by Sunshine on Georgian Bay » Tue Aug 22, 2006 9:46 pm

Just wondering if anyone out there has tried camping with a cpap - or more specifically , tried kayak camping! I just got this kayak, and then was forced to use this blankety blank machine to survive. Now I'm just getting to where my body seems to be adjusting to it - ie I went through the dry nose, the plugged nose, the gas in the stomach, the tearing off of the mask in my sleep, the air blowing into my eye (solved this by using a sleep mask over my eyes and under the cpap mask), and now I think I'm getting more used to it.

But it's bugging me that I maybe can't be free to camp and such - any experience out there ?

And a new treatment I'm going to try to get OFF the cpap - a "Scio" machine - anybody heard of this, and can it really help me get off the cpap ???? Input welcome !!! This is my first attempt on this chat net

Not into kayaks myself, but I did use my apap on a three week trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway in a Lance truck camper. We even had my oxygen concentrator along for the supplemental oxygen I need. We bought a couple of the Honda 2000 quiet generators to use if needed, but were able to hook up electricity with special permission at most of the camp grounds.

There are cpaps that can be battery operated, one by Breathe X that is only battery operated. But, again, I don't know how you would get them on a kayak!!!

Good luck. Keep us posted if you figure this out. I'd be really interested to know how you solve this problem.

Most magic fixes to keep from using XPAP are just smoke and mirrors. You can take it with you, XPAP that is, it just requires effort and planning, most units will operate off 12 volts and a deep cycle battery can get you 3 nights of bliss. Just keep it dry. Jim
