Snoredog,

I was merely guessing (reverting to going back to cpap after quite the struggle to try and buy the Apap in the first place) I had great numbers, my snore leaks were down by using a nasal mask vs. FFmask, my AHI's and flow limations were low. Ahi as low as .6 sometimes, but after 4 months or so of having it on auto, I thought by looking at the charts and remembering a link that Derek had posted well over a year ago in regards to his program My Encore, that he too reverted back to cpap due to a narrow window of treatment.

It wasn't that auto was at all bad for me, and I think in some instances when people move into difffernt posisitions thruought the night more obstructive things are bound to happen. I am not a real "mover" at night and I know this, I still believe I snore a lot still. and it seems if I highten the pressure to reduce the snore index the Ahi's go up, so it felt like these small changes in pressure no matter how slowly RemStar reacts to them or waits for them to raise pressure, it was if it tapped into my sleep stages or something. I was waking up more during the night and not knowing why. Ever since straight cpap I hardly even wake some nights for the bathroom. I totally love having BOTH the ability to have the machine either way, because surely in the near future I iwill go back to trying Apap and see what happens with the Hybrid, perhaps it will not detect as many snores with that type mask

Thanks for the post Snoredog. This sleep apnea thing is a work in progress. I got diagnosed a year ago October, and just now a lot of the pieces are fitting together. I posted last week that the first time in 4 sleep studies, it was a breeze, I fell asleep in 10 minutes, and slept the whole way thru until 6am when he was waking me, I had never before been able to sleep thru the entier study. A first for everything. I hope it can tell me why I am still sleepy after 10 months of therapy and monitoring my software and my numbers look awesome and still feeling this way. NO mouth leaks, because I taped my mouth before Hybrid, and no mouthleaks now with hybrid. I'm stumped.

Thanks again Snoredog. Happy Snoozin

Suzy

APAP - very consistent 8.6 to 11.0 per night.

At the present time I'm tying a chin-strap UNDER my chin and on top of my
head. This action 'puffs' out my cheeks just enough to seal the corners.
However, I do wake up, around 3AM with a wet and slippery face, plus a leaking mask. To correct this I dry off my mask and face, reinstall everything and go back to sleep.

Removing the Hybrid's chin-flap did make it quite a bit cooler. My next step will be the heated hose.

I wonder what next month's xPAP problems will be?

+ Aussie heated hose.

I did not experience any heat or sweating during my one-week trial with the Hybrid (currently back w/ swift for experimental purposes). In fact the opposite occurred ... the Hybrid actually "cools" my chin and mouth and it has been really hot here in central Texas lately (AC is a good thing ). Perhaps my beard has something to do with it? As I recall, MikeMoran also stated that the Hybrid felt nice and cool against his bearded face.

my opinion is you need to go back and see your sleep doc and talk about your last PSG because if you were titrated at 9cm and now need 18cm there may have been a valid reason you were to use 9cm.
You would think that to be true. But, at 9 I was getting no treatment and my downloaded numbers bore that out. I was consistently getting AHI numbers in the upper teens to lower 20s. Not very good, and I was not feeling very well. I was using straight cpap at the time. I gradually increased my pressure setting until my AHI numbers were consistenly less than 5 usally about 2-3. Plus I was feeling better at a pressure of 16. Got the apap. It was showing an average pressure of about 16-17 spiking sometimes up to 19. So, I don't really know why there is such a big difference and I don't care really. I care about how I feel. I'm feeling good but not great, so I decided to try the hybrid to see if it would be an improvement over the swift. A solution that would let me breathe through my mouth, as I want to do while I'm sleeping may help. Don't know until I can get the hybrid to be leak free. If it proves to be unconfortable or not any better, I'll keep using my trustee swift and let my mom try out the hybrid since she's been on cpap for years. I would hate to see a $200 mask wasted even though the insurance company is paying for it.
