comfy

Post by LDuyer » Tue Feb 08, 2005 4:11 pm

Sure does look comfy. Actually, the sleep clinic I went to had rooms that looked the same, much like a motel room, with comfy chairs, lamps, the whole thing. But it didn't have the same exterior, was only in a typical medical building. ......What they don't show are all the wires and contraptions they attach to you. Wouldn't make a good advertisement.

Wish I had that during mine.

To add to the difficulty to fall asleep wired up in that environment, the TV automatically went off at 11 PM (I aways stay up until midnight and sleep for about 6 hours each night), was not permitted to read, the room temp was cool when I went to sleep but soom got very warm. Not to mention the headboard squeeked. Oh, did I mention the mattress was covered in plastic that sort of crackled each time I changed positions!

Wow. Sounds like I did have it good. Funny part was that all the wires were connected to the machines to the right side of the bed, forcing me to try and sleep on my right side. I did some, but I needed to be on my left side. Well!! It took me a full hour to maneuver myself and my wires first to my back and then finally to my left side where I could sleep a little better. Funny part was on seeing the graph they later print out showing all the patterns of sleep. The graph clearly showed one full hour when I was entirely awake. Well, I knew it was that lovely hour trying to turning to my left!! Haha!

And the bathroom?! Did you get the fun experience of being all wired up, with the wires plugged into a kind of remote control, and waddling to the bathroom, and trying to do one's business?!?!?
Lovely.

Linda,

Those wires were definately a fun part of the evening. I kept thinking I would somehow hang myself!

The bathroom was a fun journey as well. Very tiny but it did have a hook I could use to hang the wires while I used the facilities! They really shouldn't have mirrors in there though. I looked very much like crap!

Michael,

Gee, I wish they had a hook like that. They had a big bathroom, with a walk-in shower even. My only hope for success on the can was to place the "remote control" box on the windowsill next to the toilet. I wondered how the technicians would feel if it had dropped in!!!

The shower was there in case we wanted to wash the goop out of our hair the next morning. I didn't. All I wanted to do was race home and use my own shower. Yes, what a sight! Our clinic had three separate bedroom units, and there were three of us there that night. The next morning each of us said to the other, "Did my snoring keep you awake?" Ha. As to the television, they plopped in a video tape, an info thing about the sleep test process, played while I was seated in a chair as the technician wired me up. Did you have the big rubbery bands around your chest and stomach? If it had only been electrodes to the head, I might not have minded.

Sheesh! Glad my test was a half and half, all in one night.

My Experience...

Post by Sleeping With The Enemy » Tue Feb 08, 2005 6:11 pm

You really had it good. I was stuck in a room, no bigger than a closet. In fact, I think it actually was a large closet. The bed was hard as a rock and the bathroom was down the hall.

Our experience (at hospital in Seattle) was more like Linda's - comfy room, four-poster bed, private bathroom, cable tv, great doc and staff. Both hubby and I were found to have severe OSA in the first study on 1/24. Who knew! In about two hours from now we both check in for our second slumber party (each in our own private suite, of course) for our first experience with The Mask. Can't wait! I have a positive attitude and am looking forward to feeling better!

My room was like a hotel room also with paintings on the wall, cable tv and bathroom w/ shower, but they cave me a nice plastic container bedside to pee in. I just made sure my back was to the camera mounted on the wall, which makes me ask. Did everyone have a video camera in the room?

... and mirrors on the ceilings? I'm not sure that was a sleep clinic you were in.

(Yes, mine had a video camera too)

Liam, who'd have flashed the camera for some 15 cent plastic beads.

i could deal with the cameras, wires, no tv, closet-sized room...but boy am i envious of the private bathrooms. all we had were stalls, yes STALLS i said. imagine balancing all the hardware in there, especially considering "while up, let's pee". i did my share of holding after the first trip. LOL.

i'm having another study set up at the time-being, please remind me not to drink for 2 days prior!

The accomodations were nice - even got to sleep on my preferred side - but when mother nature calls and a technician don't come, it makes for an unhappy patient.

About 3:45 I said I couldn't sleep any more but they insisted I stay in bed. Then they had the gall to say after they unhooked me to hurry up because they needed the room and by the way don't forget to fill out the long questionaire.

Yoga,

Goodness, I'm sure glad I hadn't had your experience. Wow! Hope they weren't looking for a tip!

I'm not sure if they had cameras, but I seem to recall maybe. I do know they had a loudspeaker. After hooking me up, the lady technician turned out the lights and left the room, warning me that she would be talking to me over the loudspeaker. She did, telling me to lean this way and that, move one foot then the other, stuff like that, to test that the wires were all working. Very strange. Test results said I had trouble sleeping through much of the test. Well, duhhh!! What do they expect. Let's strap them up once and see how THEY sleep!
