Software for Auto w/cflex

Post by Popinka » Mon Feb 07, 2005 10:21 am

I am going to pick up my auto with c-flex later this week. What software is it that I need to do the self monitoring? Is there any special computer equipment (card reader or anthing else) that I need.

Why is this software SO expensive?? I was all excited about getting an auto pap until I saw the cost of the software. I personally think it's outrageous!

My dealer here in Montreal told me their cost was $1,500.00.

We phoned Respironics together and they confirmed that it was the price. I asked if I could buy it anyway and they said it wasn't recommended.

I told them I still wanted it, and they said they wouldn't sell it to me.

I then asked them why I could buy it online for $200.00.

They went completely silent and then said good-bye.

I just bought mine for $200.00 USD at cpap.com and received it in about 7
working days. Was a good investment.

Obviously there's gouging going on somewhere, since even at $200.00 CPAP.COM is still making some money of it.

Hugh,

The ability of the local DMEs to attempt to rip customers off is endless. To tell you $1500 is their cost and then get some rep on the phone to back them up is bordering on criminal. Can you trust a word these guys tell you? Can you even trust them to set-up your equipment right?

Thanks Wader. I found a local supplier here in London who will sell it to me for $250. Apparently in Canada they are not supposed to sell it to us....what we are too stupid to understand our own condition and play a role in our treatment?

Hugh. My original APAP with cflex quote was $2500 on top of government funding. I found a Canadian online dealer http://www.sleepapneacentral.com who called me and recommended me to an ethical local supplier in town (awesome guy, phoned me and basically turned down my business, telling me that I would be better with a local supplier who could make adjustments as needed and then referred me a few smaller companies he had good experiences with). Their price is $1300 (including humidifier, mask, bag, hose) on top of government funding. My insurance will pick up the rest. They do not charge for adjustments etc, if you don't have private insurance (which I think is really cool). Also, unlimited changes of masks until you find the right fit. They, unlike the original supplier I was dealing with, had actually heard of APAPs. In short, I was really impressed.

I don't have insurance & can't afford an auto pap PLUS $200.00 for software!! I have a computer & have never paid that much for software! I think it's too much, but that's MHO!! I will probably forgo buying an auto pap because of this. I am very disappointed!

Dear Guest,

Please keep in mind that Hugh and I are in Canada and our experience may not apply to you. My understanding is that there are many more affordable online options in the U.S. (my American chums can help you out in that regard).

Guest,

I think that the Puritan Auto-Pap comes with software.

If someone could make a copy of the software a similar type smart card reader can be bought in wall-mart for $19.99.

I may be wrong, but I don't think just a "similar type card reader" will work with the Respironics smart cards. Don't know. Even if the smart card fits in the slot of other card readers, the reader might not actually be able to "read" the card.

Is the smart card just like the small flat memory cards for digital cameras?Image
