Just got my prescription for an autopap!

Post by Popinka » Fri Feb 04, 2005 1:39 pm

My doctor just gave me a prescription for an autopap. So glad b/c I thought it would be an uphill battle. The prescription is for 9+/- 3...is that a sufficient range? That and I can purchase it from an online supplier (I am totally stoked)!

Could you guys tell me which autopaps have worked best for you?

We also discussed provigil for residual daytime sleepiness which I am having (although things are much improved). He said to give it a month or so and see how things are with the autopap. I think I will also start trying to work out on my treadmill at home to see whether that helps...(Any of you out there on provigil and autopap/cpap...if so how are you finding it?)

Now you are on your way to a good nights sleep. Persistance and information wins again. Beware of the DME

Greetings Popinka,

Congratulations on scoring the auto-cpap prescription. More and more doctors are writing prescriptions for them.

Here are the popular autopap machines at cpap.com

Respironics Remstar Auto Cflex

This machine was just recently released, and the very best of the self-adjusting cpap machines.

Respironics listened to their customers and incorporated cflex into their already popular unit.

The feedback on this unit has been stellar. Comfortable is a one of the most used words when people rate this machine.

You can download your sleep data using Encore Pro and a SmartCard Reader.

Many of our customers enjoy downloading their sleep data.

Puritan Bennett Goodknight 420E

The Goodnight 420E is the smallest auto-pap on the market. It weighs in at 1.6 pounds. Closer to 3 lbs with the laptop style, brick looking power supply.

This machine can adjust the point on which it will stop reacting to apnea. It is more adjustable than others in its class.

The mate humdifier to this unit will be released at the end of next week. It is also as small at the main unit, making it ideal for home, as well as travel. The tank sits in front of the machine and extends under the main unit to give it more water capacity.

Today, I had a call from a customer who sang praise of the 420E. I do believe he said, "That machine is just dandy".

To compliment this auto, Silverlining software is available for purchase.. Silverlining is a very comprehensive program, that shows your sleep in detail.

Remed Auto-Set Spirit

The Spirit has been a favorite to many here on this forum, and at our website as well. This machine is quiet, well made, and rapidly responds to respiratory events. Resmed does a nice job on their products. From their masks to their machines, they sit high in the saddle.

The Auto-Set Spirit can be downloaded with Resmed's Autoscan software. AHI and AI can also be seen on the machines small display window. This is a great feature if you don't plan on buying the optional software.

An option for the Spirit is a attachable heated humdifier called the Humidaire 2ci. This makes it easy to pack and travel.

Another fancy option is called "Reslink". Reslink has a smart media card, that records blood oxygen levels,"Pulse Ox", via a finger tip sensor. There are a few on this forum who have taken advantage of this gem.

I hope this helps you get a better idea of the auto units out there.
