Hello Lennyten -

I am sorry to hear that you are having troubles and that you are having difficulties getting serious answers from some. After reading through all you have been trying in both this thread and the other, I might suggest actually going back for another sleep study at this point. There are a lot of other things that can be examined in a sleep lab that we simply cannot do at home. Additionally, they are able to move pressures around in real time while you are sleeping which of course is a huge benefit over us doing it ourselves over the course of many nights.
To answer your question directly - I do not think a mattress can cause Sleep Apnea, but I do believe that it can exacerbate the condition. Of course, I have nothing to base that on but my own treatment and experience, but it's what I think.

The most common type of sleep apnea (obstructive sleep apnea) is caused by a blockage or even by a narrowed airway in the throat or oral area. During sleep, the muscles of the throat or tongue relax to such a degree that they cause a blockage in the airway.

I don't think that an old mattress causes sleep apnea, but it couldn't hurt to get a new one, in fact it might help.

An old mattress doesn't cause sleep apnea but in my husband's case a new firm mattress makes for more restful, less disturbed sleep and enables him to turn over more easily.

Can replying to five year old posts cause sleep apnea?
